If you think your current employer doesn’t WANT you then you will leave even if you do NOT get more money than you currently make merely because you want to feel WANTED as much as you want to get paid more!

Tell me something, if you get a job offer for so much money do you go to other businesses who didn’t make you an offer to try and get more or merely tell the ones who DID make an offer what you got in hopes they will beat it?

Yankees have made NO OFFER is Reyes going to go to them and say the Marlins are going to give me this much care to beat it? NO!

But he will go back to the Marlins FOR SURE to tell them hey Since you showed interest I got this offer and would you like to up your offer?

You talk about Panic Buttons but you just hit the easy button!
Well here is what you fail to forget, You have to SHOW interest before they will come at you with any offers they get!

Marlins WILL get that priviledge for showing interest! We Might but then again we Might not!

And want to admit it or not, Reyes is CLOSER to being a Marlin than he is to being a MET!
He HAS an offer from them! None from us!
We are not panicing about reyes becoming a Marlin! We are panicing because the GM who is showing no interest in him is going to still be here no matter WHERE reyes goes to which is less likely us than the Marlins at this point!

f I get a job offer and I want to stay where I currently work because they gave me my 1st chance, I give that employer a chance to match the offer. No doubt about it.

If Reyes doesn’t want to be a Met, he won’t care f they can match it.

If we lose Jose, we get some compensation. If Sandy feels that he can squeeze a team like Colorado for stud prospects maybe he even trades David Wright. In the meantime, moving in the fences will help David and Jason Bay.

The reality for us as fans is that there are still too many unanswered questions about this team. The health of Ike Davis and even Daniel Murphy is a big problem . If we do lose Jose, Ruben Tejada becomes our shortstop and that will leave us weak defensively at second base. The jury is still out on Angel Pagan and we are in need of better catching too.

If everything goes in our favor we could be a middle of the road team but the likelihood is that we are in for a very tough season….

Bottom line is that Sandy Alderson knew that he was inheriting a mess and that he is going to need a year or two to be able to correct it.

When he was hired, the Wilpon’s finally faced the reality of the situation and hired a guy to fix it permanently.

If not he could then tell them what the Marlins offered or go back to the Marlins and say ok you win!

Same thing that COULD have happened if we had made an initial offer!

If he hasn’t figured out what he means to this franchise and fanbase, then he’s really dumb or just ignoring it all.

How do you know? Do you have proof that he would have given the Mets the final chance to beat any negotiation? Do you have proof he won’t still do that?

Everybody hit the panic button because it was a sure thing Reyes was a Marlin. Now that is proven to be a false report and there’s no backtracking because that would take too much effort to swallow pride.

I don’t understand all the hate for ‘this FO’. Let’s put the blame solely where it belongs – the Wilpons.
Some incredibly bad decisions from investing every dollar of Sterling Mets with Madoff to extending Minaya’s contract in Sep of ’08 are why the Mets are where they’re at right now.

This FO is doing the job it was brought in to do: Rebuilding and treading water while the WIlpons try and climb out of the financial mess they’re in, crossing their fingers they can hold onto the team while doing so. IMO, it’s not happening. Slashing payroll isn’t enough. They need revenue and they’re not getting that with this team. Not where it appears to be headed for 2012 and quite possibly some years after that.

Reyes is going to where REYES wants to go, it won’t be about a happy meal bought for him or who drove him around in a horse and carriage.

For someone that supposedly was high on the list for 6-8 (or more) teams, to just go straight to 1 team and sign up immediately without fielding other offers (including going back to their current team) would be bizarre.

And as someone up above noted, if true, it screams of having been the plan all along.

No? Figured as much.

This story did seem a bit of a litmus test. Obviously, some people have already decided who is the bad guy in this story, even if there is no story. Be it Reyes, Alserson, Wilpon or whomever.
