Very true! Especially when considering him in Coloraado where he's always put up big numbers. That will probably be enough to entice O'Dowd. He won't trade Pomeranz but he may very well trade Arenado and Rosario which in that case I would drive Wright to Coors Field myself. I think that's a fair deal for both teams but Colorado will probably want a window to negotiate a new deal.

I agree! If they really want him like they say they do then make an offer before the 5 day window after the WS is up.Even though we all know Reyes will decline the offer and wait for other teams to get involved,at least if you come out of the gate at what you deem a fair offer, you send a message to your fanbase that we want this guy and we're not waiting for him to hit the open market. You automatically put the ball in Reyes' court.

Well why wouldn't the blame go to Sandy afterall it is HIS PEOPLE who are dropping the hints to reyes he won't be back before they have even talked about numbers yet!

If your going to be picking who to go to, If the money is the same do you take the guy who said all winter I don't think it's happening or go to the team who came out and said Hey we want you please come play for us?

They should just keep their mouths shut!
Stop trying to drops hints in the media about their intentions and either make an offer or not!
It's up to reyes not them to decide if re-signing is going to happen or not and all these ANONYMOUS Met Sources are doing is pushing reyes away.
And if he does go they SHOULD be blamed because they WANT him to sign somewhere else!

They seem to practically be BEGGING him to leave!

Carlos save a lot of your boy Wright's bad throws.

You refuse to accept Tejada is a 21 year old boy young enough to be your grand son and still developing.

He's a starter not a sub. Everybody but you knows that.

And why are we talking about the SS for the Texas Rangers who is 2 years older than Tejada? And Tejada hit higher than him in his first semi-full year while Andrus hit .267 his first full year
And while we're at it I think Tejada could surpass him in due time. Talk to me in 2 years.

Your judgement continues to be absolutely horrendous considering all the years you claimed to watch baseball. Guess you were watching but not seeing.

I'm still waiting to hear you say I was RIGHT about Tejada. He became the starter and your injury prone kid still has yet to play a full season at AA

Tejada is a STARTER and not a sub

And the ol' Mike Jacobs argument thrown at me again. Wow I got one wrong. And I still STAND BEHIND the decision because it was after the nightmare 2009 2 years after his last 30 HR season and a lot of professional people thought it was a decent move too.

When are you gonna learn you're simply not in my league. Hate to say it but you just don't seem to get it.

You don't seem to know the difference between hate and an objective opinion. After watching Elvis Andrus make a couple of really dazzling plays in the series last night, you must be drooling with what the Mets are missing. Also, Andrus can run the bases and steal, something your wunderkind can't do. But don't be too harsh, Tejada has a future as a sub. He's playing more now because of injuries to other players. In the long run, Ruben has a lower ceiling than most guys at 2B and SS. But he's a serviceable AAAA and sub major league player.

And by the way, you made some colossal mistakes. How's Mike Jacobs doing? And your idol, Carlos Delgado, is fielding as well today as he was when Willie threatened to bench him for not getting his uniform dirty. Carlos, a nice man, was a mediocre at best fielder.

T Agee,

I understand he is not qualified just like us here, but as a journalist he has a bigger place to inform than we do. I am sure he will again like all baseball journalists do, tell you what the Mets should do. His "trades" are not usually good at all for the Mets and as Met fan my point was that I would not want him as my GM.
Thanks for your "kind' reply.

If Reyes leaves Joe, he'll be a RARE and I mean RARE player that the fans of a TEAM do not blame the player.

If he leaves for a ridiculous contract or simply because he doesn't wanna be here, most fan bases would be ticked off with him. Most would see that as a slap in the face. They'd look back on Game 162 and think "maybe there was more to him taking himself out?"

But here, right now, it's almost as if no matter what he does, people will look to blame somebody else. If Pujols leaves the Cardinals, Cards fans will be ticked with Pujols, not with their GM.

Ok so in all seriousness, you know what is intriguing/troublesome regarding Reyes?

I mean if he leaves, there will be fans that put the blame solely on Alderson and they will never really know the truth. I mean I guess you have to in your head come up with figures that you'd UNDERSTAND why they don't sign him. Because if you think he's an open checkbook player, you're wrong. So being reasonable, you as a fan have to say "5 years" or "100mil", you have to set parameters.

Because if he signs with say Florida (just hypothetical) for 7 years 120mil and there is an uprising about it, it will be ugly and foolish.

But if he goes somewhere and signs like a 5 yr 95mil, yeah I'll join you in anger. But before I do I'd like to hear both sides.

I'm sure Reyes if he leaves will put an ad in some paper like Crawford did, but if the Mets say "we offered X, and he didn't want it" and you deem X as "fair" then I hope for 162 games we aren't reading each summary as "imagine if we had signed reyes"

As for Wright, I find it interesting when "sources" say the package won't be that much. Because lets be honest whether you like Wheeler or not (which its odd to me to not like him but whatever), the fact they got him for a 34 yr old free agent is pretty impressive for a late July deal.

another interesting point: h9ow few guys are left from 5 years ago. Just points out how rapidly most teams turn over, and why you really can't say what a team will be 4-5 (heck, even 3) years from now. And that goes for teams that were very good in 2011 (like the Phils).

In MLB, fortunes can change a lot in a couple of years, and it is not all based on developing prospects out of the minors to fill every roster spot.

a couple good FA moves, a smart trade or 2, and a couple young guys hitting, and bingo, competing for playoffs.

You read the same nonsense about teams looking at a player (usually a FA) as not being worth that much due to whatever flaws, and some team (or teams for bidding) still make a huge offer for him.

so odds are, at least 1 (that is all it takes) GM is going to look at Wright and see his career #s, age, and the issues around the team the last couple years, and come to the conclusion that in a new environment (say, Colorado) he will be revitalized and have a huge year. Doesn't matter what the other 28 GMs think.

as an innocent bystander, the vast majority of comments discussing sabermetrics are made by the anti-crowd. There are very few comments posted making sabermetrics are good arguements, or talking about them at all.

mentining OBP or having to live on a budget is not a discussion about sabermetrics. nor is mentioning the name of the Mets GM.
