It’s worth noting that while its obvious Aybar is not Reyes, the Angels appear to not “need” a SS. They fall under the category of “just fine” with the type of SS they have. Now, 3B that is a different story. For the “trade Wright” folks, maybe that is a greater possibility?

If you look at their squad, a guy like Wright would actually do more for them than Reyes because they already have speed in Aybar, Bourjos, Kendrick. Speed etc is not their problem. Power and run producing are. Wright is a better fit in LAA as presently constructed than Reyes in my view

According to Cot’s, Reyes’ contract, signed in 2006, was for 4 years starting in 2007, with an option for 2011, which was exercised last winter. There was no committment, option or otherwise, for another season.

Ummmmm…these teams compete against one another, or did you forget that? You take away a team’s better player you weaken them. They may not play in the same league, but they help diminish our strength overall. I hope you’re not thinking GMs compete via who spends less or more.

The Angels are also pretty strapped with some bad contracts.Last offseason Artie Moreno said the team will not add anymore substantial payroll.Whether or not that has changed remains to be seen.They definitely need some offense.

No his 3 year extension kicked in prior to the 2009 season.He was asked to stay with the team for his final season but he chose not to.

I mistakenly posted a link to Reyes telling friends he would love to play for the Angels in the wrong reply. Here it is again:

Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, whom the club would prefer to keep through the summer, has told friends he would love to sign with the Angels when he becomes a free agent after the season, a source said Tuesday. While Reyes might look good in manager Mike Scioscia’s system.

Are you sure he’s free to go? I was under the impression he was fired even though the 3 year extension he got didn’t kick in yet?

I like where Donal is heading with this, let’s get some compensation if we can.
