He’s only 18 and a lot can change, but he looks like he could possibly end up as a reliever unless he picks up another secondary pitch and refines all of them. Peaking at 96 at 18 is very impressive and it most likely will improve as long as the Mets don’t start tinkering with his fastball. You perfect that changeup and curve and you may have the makings of dominant end game reliever and potential closer.

I’m surprised how many guys even at the ML level falloff to the side. k rod was big on this. Must make it incredibly hard to repeat mechanics and control where the ball is going.

You watch a guy like Halladay (or Greg Maddux in the past), and they barely look like they are working, and land perfectly square and balanced.

Thanks for the video, Des! You are right he tends to fall off to the firstbase side. But he seems to have a very powerful build and strong legs. The curve looks a bit slurvey, but that’s fixable. But you can’t teach velocity, and that’s something he has already.

Thanks Petey. Akeel in this May 2010 video taken (while he was still in high school) shows a 91-93mph fastball. He has a nice motion but seems to be falling off to the first base side when he follows through. That’s something that will be corrected, probably pretty easily.
