Wouldn’t it be odd if they went after and got reyes and then traded for Wright?

What would all the folks who say we can’t win WITH them do if the Phillies DO win WITH them?

Sandy would be run out of town in a year if he allowed that to happen!

The only reason it’s a useless stat, according to you, is because it includes the name of David Wright next to it……….

If you are going to continue to say David Wright is the biggest choke artist in their history – then this conversation is over, all that is telling me is you have an irrational hate for a guy named David Wright. Blaming him for 07 and 08 means you were NOT watching the games in 07 and 08 and that it doesn’t matter if people prove you wrong with FACTS every day of the week, you’re going to believe your fairy tale.

I think the name Piazza, or Alfonso, or Ventura, or Carter, or Hernandez, or Strawberry..even Hojo was a very good big spot hitter….i think you better re-evaluate your stance and use real life as a barometer instead of a random stat sheet.

First off – YOU brought up those names, I didn’t, Piazza to date is the greatest big spot hitter NO DOUBT, I wasn’t comparing him, YOU said that Delgado and Beltran’s hits in September 08 were big hits in 08 and Wrights were not – with NO proof, just what you saw through your hatred glasses.

Wright to the Phillies would be a PR disaster. In that ballpark he could hit 40 dingers along with 125 Ribbies.

Thank god they didn’t have blogs in the late 70′s when the Mets ownership decided to trade everything that wasn’t nailed down and attendance dropped to 750,000.

No offense meant to any individual but this is one of the most short sighted discussions I’ve read in a while.

Have we really come to this as Mets’ fans. We have two all-stars in their prime on the club – the team doesn’t have much more and there is a faction that wants to let one of them go and trade the other.

Have another cup of the Madoff Kool-Aid.

This is sad.

just goes to show you how useless and misleading a stat can be. Does it say anything more about his “game-winning” hits?
Is the go ahead run of a 10-1 blowout considered a game winning hit? I know it used to.

If you’re gonna sit there and put the New York Mets biggest choke artist in their history on the same stage as other famous and even less talented Mets who have been able to deliver big hits time and time again then you’re living in a fantasy world not based on real life.

Thanks for posting a link to a thread that is saying the same thing that this one is. Still proved nothing.

Stating when Delgado and Beltran got RBI’s in winning games doesn’t really prove anything.

The fact remains Wright has more game winning hits then any NY Met in the history of the franchise…….but I guess everyone of those games didn’t matter.

Well since you base everything on face, show each box score that proves Delgado and Beltran’s runs were big ones and Wrights were not.

In the month of September their numbers mirrored each other, but according to what you saw, the first two had big hits….prove it, and don’t tell me you remember what you saw….

You may be right, but I don’t go on what you saw or what anyone was watching a few years ago. Show me….otherwise….

So the difference between a guy who is far more clutch than Wright is roughly 5 HR and about 9 RBI since Wright hit 12HR and 41 RBI in Aug+Sept 2007.

Can you tell me what innings all of Longoria’s “clutch scoring position 2 out” at bats came in? What was the situation, what the game tied, were they winning, was the game out of reach?

Do you see what I’m saying here. I’m not fighting with you. I’m telling you the following

Evan Longoria has had roughly 2,465 plate appearances in his career in regular season + postseason. If I had to guess you’ve likely seen less than 200 of those. Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you’ve seen every Longoria plate appearance in the playoffs and some highlight reels mixed in with an occasional Rays game.

Wright has had roughly 4,738. And I’d venture to guess you’ve seen over 90% of them.

So OF COURSE you think Longoria is just so much more clutch, because you SEE Wright fail. You don’t see Longoria fail because its rarely on sportcenter.

I’m not saying he isn’t clutch. I’m saying neither you nor I have any idea if he really is because we don’t have the luxury of watching him play. You see Wright play and you remember the bad.

I was. So exacty my point. So your point that Longoria is so much far superior than Wright is based on what you SAW. Did you watch Tampa’s games 1-161? I doubt it. So how can you honestly give me an assesmet that Wright can’t shine Longoria’s shoes because Longo is so much more clutch?

Because he hit a HR off Luis Ayala and Scott Proctor?

So Longoria’s LDS being terrible doesn’t matter right? He’s clutch now because you saw him hit 2 big HR’s and that’s it.

he also had 13/41 with a .324 average in 2008.

basically, for 2 straight years, Wright carried the team down the stretch while other guys disappeared (onthe offense, besides all the pitchers).

He was actually better in the pressure cooker of Sept. 2008. 6/21/.340.

If September 2008 was not a clutch/pressure stretch, there isn’t any such thing!

so yes, Murphy is still on 3B, but if it hadn’t been for Wright it would have been a meaningless game anyway.
