  • I am happy.
    Congrats to the Tigers.

  • Next- Let’s go St. Louis

  • sucks for them.

Guess after 1 year of being clutch, A Rod is back to being a choker?

    • at least he was CLUTCH for 1 year…. meanwhile …………………………

  • What a beautiful picture :) Theeeee Spankeeeeesss Lossssseeeee!

  • What a beautiful day.

    Go CARDS

    • What did I say to warrant a thumbs down? Proving how silly that feature really is. Geez……….

      • lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was just saying that in the CHAT!!!!! some ppl just vote on who it is instead of the comment…

  • To all the diasappointed Jinkee fans…..all I can say is awwwwwwwwww, that’s tooooo bad!

  • jose valverde hasn’t blown a save ALL SEASON, yet, somehow CRAIG KIMBREL to quote JESSEP is the best closer in the game.. based on what??? idk… congrats to the tigers (my pick to win the WS), i see them beating the rangers in 6 games..

    • Based on how he pitched. Saves are a silly stat.

      • based on how he pitched??

        • Yes, on how he pitched.

          • so how did he pitched??? he had almost the same season carlos marmol had in 2010, yet there was not a single word about marmol and his accomplishment, yet, since kimbrell was a braves “stud” he was gushing and drooling about him, calling him the best closer in the game.. once he CHOKED away the lead on the 9th inning of game 162 never heard from him again!
            btw, kimbrel had 9 blown saves…. 9!

            • Kimbrel 2011: 77 IP, 2.10 ERA, 1.52 FIP, 1.94 xFIP, 3.97 K/BB, 1.08 WHIP
              Valverde 2011: 72.1 IP, 2.24 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 4.01 xFIP, 2.03 K/BB, 1.19 WHIP
              Marmol 2010: 77.2 IP, 2.55 ERA, 2.01 FIP, 2.83 xFIP, 2.06 K/BB, 1.38 WHIP

Kimbrel obliterated those fools, especially Valverde, as a ROOKIE! It’s about how you pitch.

“once he CHOKED away the lead on the 9th inning of game 162 never heard from him again!”

Well, his season did end. Should we run through the basics of baseball again? When your season ends, you stop playing baseball.

            • Marmol was in his 5th year in 2010. Kimbrell his first in 2011.

Kimbrell also had 46 saves to go along with those 9 blown ones, as a rookie. To put that in perspective Parnell has as many saves in four years as Kimbrel has blown saves in one.

I’m sure for many, they would prefer Parnell closing out our games or picking up another David Weathers for a 2nd round draft choice but I just don’t see how anyone can complain about this rookies performance except that he wasn’t doing it for us.

3rd round draft choice, rookie making 420K, 2.10 ERA 46 saves and if anything suffered from over use. He pitched almost every other day. That might even come back to harm him down the road but if it doesn’t it makes the Braves tough to beat in the 9th inning.

              • ahhh Shut up, marmol was in his first FULL year as a closer, and was pure DOMINANT that year… he had 138 strikeouts in 77 innings!!!!!! also 38 saves and completed or finish 77 games.. he was a beast, yet, kimbrel had the same year and all of the sudden he’s the best closer in the game?!?! you and him make me sick with this lovefest for the braves “studs”.. he was under the radar, once he was put in the spotlight he CHOKE BIG TIME!!! REMEMBER, 9 BLOWN SAVES!!!!!!! including the BIGGEST CHOKE JOB OF THE SEASON WHEN HIS TEAM AND THE TEAM YOU LIKE NEEDED THE MOST!! CHOKE ON THAT!!! BTW, How is heyward doing?!

                • Please. Kimberl ate Marmol for breakfast.

              • never see you once talking about duda or tejada, yet freeman, heyward and co get all the praise from you… embarrassing!

                • I was high on Tejada when others were down on him. Just thought he needed to adjust his stance and strengthen his hand and lay off the high strike. Duda I was not so high on but I believe in his bat now. Still don’t like him the OF though.

  • sad how pathetic mets fan have become. we cannot dream of playing meaningful baseball in july forget october, especially with do nothing sandy running the show, and yet you will sit here and rip a team that goes to the postseason year in and year out and does so by getting free agents, building within, and spending money, something i cannot walk and chew gum at the same time sandy understands.

    • will, while i agree with you, as a mets fan, yankees and braves are our rivals, anytime something bad happen to them, we celebrate it. remember the back to back choke jobs we had? many yankees fans were pretty happy!!!

    • Feel free to applaud the Yankees all you want but rooting for a rival to lose irregardless of your own team’s success has been a part of baseball since only like it’s inception.

      • No applauding, you just look pathetic when you talk about another teams season when you have not been over .500 in 3 plus years, mean while that team has won the ws, been to alcs, and alds. you have no creditability but what can expect from sandy lovers, cannot wait to see the 2012 version of sandyball. going to have pay people to watch and go but since it makes you feel so much better about the mets keeping ripping away because u sound like a bunch of babies.

        • Alex has a brother named Will? Who knew!

          • well, if you mean by keeping it real and not being blind about sandy’s inability to put a winner on the field!!!

          • and by the way, the CORE salutes will all the time.. so if he bleeds blue and orange yes, he is my brother,…

            • thank you Alex, i for the life of me do not understand how people in any way think the mets have gotten better under sandy, just further beyond there competition with more holes to fill. i look forward to seeing what the excuses are after this offseason. mark my words they already have them planned for jose signing elsewhere. Jessep is already typing his blog for that day filled with 25 reasons why it was the right move.

              • LMAO!!!!!!!!!! you bet… that is what he does, he’s nothing but a second guesser, a fake fan of the mets and jose reyes, and as you said, he will provide a list of the “prospects” to see which ones we can get for the suplemental picks we get for reyes.. is embarrassing and pathetic.. but him and aggee are the worst in this site.

              • Well Jessup judges the team’s success by how cheap it is not how good it does!

Doesn’t matter if your irrelevant, just as long as you didn’t spend anything to get there!

Doesn’t matter if you keep good player, the Bank Account is key!

What he doesn’t understand is what is the point of SAVING money if you don’t intend on spending it on something else?

                • he’s a frontrunner, as soon as his braves CHOKED he was nowhere to be found, he stopped talking about kimbrell once he was getting smacked around in september once the spotlight was on, he every single time something comes up he then post an article to rile fans up, once sandy got eamus he started raving about eamus “discipline at the plate”, when he became a bum and a bust he used the “well, he didn’t cost us much” excuse instead of saying sandy failed at this.. that is why i and many ppl here don’t like him..

                  • You are all children………..

              • I find it ironic that you are on your moral high horse about Mets fans not happy about a Yankees loss and now Phillies loss, yet are making ASSUMPTIONS on what will happen this off season, and what Jessep is going to write.

                Typical

        • How much of the NYY going to ALCS, ALDS and winning the World Series was attributable to you?

Let me dumb it down for you skank breath. What did YOU have to do with any of those accomplishments? Sit on your fat arse and stuff your mouth with hot dogs?

Congratulations on winning the World Series. Great job.

        • What is pathetic is a little child calling those that are happy that the Yankees are out of it Sandy Lovers.

Stop letting people pee in your fruity pebbles and lighten up, don’t like it move along.

  • I am a Met fan and love “kibbitzing” with my fellow Met fans. I don’t want to come to this site and read about the Yankees. I could care less what they do, how they play. I only pay attention to them for interleague play againt the Mets. The METS are my team!

    • Thanks for the comment Metfan. I started this site and I want to share what our original motto was and also link you to a couple of graphics.

Metsmerized – We root for two teams, the Mets and whoever’s playing against the Yankees.

Those graphics were made in 2005. On this site Mets pride and Yankees hate runs deep.

      • Well Joe D I come to this site because my motto is “There are the METS and everyone else.”

        • I enjoy reading your comments and I appreciate and respect your opinions, Metfan. :-D

          • Thankl you and I love the site. I will only make one comment about the Bombers. I think the Yanks are descending and the Mets are ascending. The team is aging badly and the pitching staff is hobbled together. Rodriquez and Jeter are both 36 and how do you replace those guys. Posada won’t be back. Call me crazy but I have said all along Reyes could be the replacement for Jeter. I know they would love to have Pujols but I think Texeria is a great first baseman so he won’t be coming to NY. And that is my lasy comment on the Yanks except to say Joe G. is one heck of a manager!

            • Thankl you and I love the site. I will only make one comment about the Bombers. I think the Yanks are descending and the Mets are ascending.”

i love your enthusiasm metfan, but you have got to be kidding me with that comment… please stop it, they reload remember?

              • sorry, must be the Jack Daniels-makes me say crazy things.

  • Down go the Stankees. SEEEE YAAAA !!!
Hey Jorge, There’s no crying in baseball !
Gi-Lair-di has more excuses than anyone baseball.
A-Rod is back post steriods. Guess he misses his juicy juice.
    2oo million plus = Yankees
    Jorge crying = really
    Girardi making excuses = priceless

  • Hmmm Tigers .311OBP/.380SLG/.690OPS beat the Yankees .350/.399/.749
    Rangers .299/.375/.674 beat Tampa .310/.436/.745

And the league leader in OBP/SLG/OPS (Boston) isn’t even in the playoffs!

What a great stat those are!

    • They have nothing to do with wins. They have to do with runs. Yankees scored more runs because of them. Red Sox scored more runs because of those stats. You’re forgetting about little things like pitching and defense.

      • You got that right!
They have nothing to do with Winning!

But you keep yapping about them as if they do!
Have nothing to do with Runs either!
You see no matter how many runs those teams may have produced it was never enough to win the games they needed to win was it?

You never hear that fielding and pitching doesn’t matter from anyone but the same guys who put stock in OBP/SLG/OPS!

        • What are you talking about? OBP is the best indicator of scoring runs. That’s never changed. Had nothing to do with winning games by itself and no one ever said it did. More making up lies and inventing things.

          • “OBP is the best indicator of scoring runs. That’s never changed”

It’s never been proved yet either!
Tried to get you to do it but you instead used the subterfuge of arguing about RBI to avoid the subject.

Toronto scored more runs than Reds, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Royals, Brewers, Mets, Phillies, Devil Rays, White Sox, Dodgers, and Marlins!
All of them with more OBP!
            Care to explain?
Toronto also had less SLG than Diamondbacks, Royals, Brewers, and Orioles But yet they scored more runs! Got anything on this?
Toronto also had less OPS than Reds, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Royals, and Brewers yet scored more runs….Still there?

So what happened? How did your indicators do? Why did they FAIL to INDICATE as well as you say they should?”

            • Yep as I expected….
You really had no way to explain why your theory fails on almost every level!

And since I didn’t bring up the RBI you had no way to change the subject and circle jerk it off topic!

          • Well we don’t need an “indication of scoring runs” we need RUNS! And RBI’s provides that.

if we had more RBIs we would win more games. The Mets already accomplished their OBP nonsense, and with Wright, Davis, & Beltran missing serious significant time.

But hey! Mets were at the top of the league in OBP even though the RBI guys missed significant time. How important that OBP talk is.

RBI is a nice indicator of WINNING games, though.

            • We scored 62 more runs this year than last even though we hit 20 less HR’s. BA went up .15 and OB went up .21. RBI went up by 51. More hits and more walks = more runs.

              No surprise there.

              • Yep and 51 of those 62 runs were RBI!

Prove it was the Walks and 116 hits that made those RBI!

                If you can…

                • Well RBI are primarily produced by hits, and the runs they drive in are most often OB due to other hits or walks, so, ugh, yeah. I’d say more hits and walks = more runs.

What’s your theory on how we scored 62 more runs?

Because we hit 20 less HR’s? Or was it the nine less SAC fly’s?

                  • The Increase in BA from .249 to .264
The fact we had 2 guys hit over .300 compared to NONE last year!

And one more hit .300+ for the first two months of the season!

Duda added 50 RBI this year in only 300 ABs
He wasn’t on the team last year!
                    Beltran had 66 RBI!
He wasn’t on the team a whole lot either in 2010 but about the same in each season considering the trade!
Murphy had 49 HRs, He wasn’t on the 2010 Squad!
Turner had 51 RBI, He’s new too!

                    Just to name a few…Differences…

The guys we had drove runners in!
The guys we had last year did not!
And the two best RBI guys in 2010 all missed huge amounts of playing time this year!

But lets not get on that circle jerk about how bad you think this team is compared to the Braves who scored fewer runs! And were a worse offense in every metric you seem to think is good!

                    • Sorry that should read Murphy had 49 RBI!

                    • Right Metsie. We lost a bunch of guys and we got some others. All together the guys we got hit and walked more than the guys we lost.

More hits and walks = more runs.

Please get that info to Alderson ASAP.

                  • But look at what was new did DESPITE losing the two best RBI guys from last year!

Davis had 25 RBi in only 36 games
Wright had 61 RBI in 102

                    In 2010 they had:
                    Wright 103
                    Davis 71 (rookie year)

Add that to what we got this year and how many more runs do we score and how many more games do we win?

    • I love your passion Metsie but cmon it was a 5 game series.

      • Whats Boston’s excuse? They played 162!

And for the record I have never said that having good numbers in those stats is a bad thing.
Just not as cracked up as some would have us believe!

And hardly the thing to look for when you want to increase RS or Win games!
Beause even when you get them it doesn’t seem to matter as much as something else!

You want to build a winning team look for something ELSE not OBP/SLG/OPS

        • If you want to build a good OFFENSE, look at OBP/SLG/OPS. If you want a good pitching staff, look at good ERA/FIP/xFIP, WHIP and K/BB. Been that way for 150 years.

          • isn’t good offense about scoring runs?
Funny but teams you claim have good offense do seem to do that!
Only the ones with GOOD OFFENSE and GOOD RBI do it!

            • EDIT DO NOT seem to do that!

        • I was speaking on the use of the 5 game series not Boston.

Overall you already know my thoughts on OBP/Runs so you know that the comparison was never about team wins.

          • No it was about scoring runs which are required to get team wins…

Good Pitching removes the UNACCOMPLISHED Accomplishments that OBP says a batter has and therefore forces the team to EARN thier runs via hitting. A team built to score runs based on hitting will with equal pitching score more runs than a team who relies on Pitcher compliance and mistakes to get their runs! (team built with OBP)

Because OBP includes as plusses things that the Batter can not do on his own! He needs a pitcher to maintain. And when Pitcher does not comply with what the batter needs to get On Base, He is forced to hit the ball instead which is why going for the BA instead of the OBP will give you a MUCH better indicator of who can EARN those runs no matter what the pitcher does!

And in the proccess if he faces a bad Pitcher he will get roughly the same amount of OB from the pitcher as a High OBP low BA guy will get because the Pitcher is the same! In fact he will get MORE OBP because the Pitcher actually has MORE REASON to pitch around him because the HIT does more to score runs than the walk does unless the bases are loaded! And when those bases are loaded who would you rather have up? The Walker or guy who gets hit by the pitch and will drive in one run or the guy who can hit and drive in MORE than one?

            • Cmon Metsie, of course scoring runs are required to win.

I think you may be over analyzing all this. The point was that using a 5 game series to make a bigger point which in your case involved OBP/SLG/OPS was a stretch due to it’s small sample size. That was all nothing more.

All the other stuff I’ll leave that to you and others to debate.

My personal view is and still remains that usually in each respective league teams with a high obp usually also have a high runs scored but like all numbers in baseball there are exceptions to the rule.

              • The 5 game series sample is significant because it shows the importance of Pitching!

If you build a team based on stats that require Pitching failure you do not win because that other team’s pitchers do not fail!

It is the reason why people say Pitching wins championships!

“My personal view is and still remains that usually in each respective league teams with a high obp usually also have a high runs scored”
The question remains is that merely co-incidence? Or is it because lots of things that are required to get an RS are also an OB?

Texas, Boston, Tigers, Royals, and Card all also had the higher BA! (Hits are counted as OB but they are EARNED OBs)
Yankees, Rangers, RedSox, Blue Jays, Brewers, Reds, also led the league in HRs (also OBs)

Boston, Rangers, Royals, Tigers, Cards, Yankees, were all tops in Hits (Hits are EARNED OBs)

Yet we are told as gospel to ignore the BA that earns then in favor of stats that includes un earned OBs and only works when Pitchers comply with that!

                • OK Metsie I don’t want to get into a long drawn out discussion over simply saying that a 5 game series is a small sample size.

If you feel it is relevant then I will leave it at that.

                  • Sample size doesn’t matter!
If it is statistically true then Sample size is irrelevant.

Sample size is a poor excuse when you say events relate to results!
Either they relate and convert no matter the sample size or they don’t relate.

                    • “Sample size doesn’t matter!”

                      Ya, it’s pretty damned important.

                    • Only to those who need excuses when the stats don’t do what they say they will!

If a batter has a .400 OBP does it matter if it was 10 ABs or 100 ABs?

You removed the Sample by making a percentage and if it is a true percentage then the sample doesn’t matter!

    • This thing called pitching. You might have heard of it.

      • And you know why GOOD PITCHING beats good OBP?

Because the pitcher can twart good OBP bye getting rid of all the OB that isn’t a BATTER ACCOMPLISHMENT AKA a Hit! Merely by not walking and not hitting players with the ball!

It removes the LIE the OBP tells you is ACCOMPLISHED by a batter but requires the Pitcher to comply to get!

        • “And you know why GOOD PITCHING beats good OBP?”

What? That is not what we are talking about. you asked why the Red Sox missed the playoffs. It’s because their pitching went down the crapper.

Good pitching beats good hitting and the Tigers had better pitching 3 of the last 5 games.

          • It’s not what YOUR talking about now beause you fell into the trap and now need to change the subject!

You made no mention of the Red Sox only in your reply!

      • Well it appears that Good Pitching doesn’t beat good hitting.
If it did Phillies would still be in the Playoffs now wouldn’t they?

  • Interesting on how many Yankees fans visit this site and comment on others comments.

    • Amazing it is. Stankee fans either tell you how good they are or tell you how good they were.
