Just because the Young signing didn't work out as well a few others doesn't mean anything. Alderson didn't have much to work with and did what he could so cut him some slack. Dickey was deserving of a new contract yes his record didn't show it but he was one of our better pitchers this year he just had no run support. How do you figure Alderson got played? What did you expect in return from K-Rod and getting Wheeler from San Fransisco was the best deal he could of made. Yes standings and record wise this was a bad year but not half way as bad as people projected it to be. If you read the article were they compare the stats such as on base percentage, walks etc there was a clear improvement from 2010. Of course it didn't show in wins but that's still a positive. If you hadn't watched the games then I guess you didn't see how hard Collins had these kids playing for most of the year. Things don't change over night and things only get worse before getting better.

But again back to the topic we were discussing. When Minaya wins a Division it's called "winning." when someone else wins a Division (or 5) it's called "not winning." As in "what has he ever won."

     What a mutton head.

So, what you are saying is that Minaya and Alderson started in the exact same position?

And since Cashen took 4 years to make the playoffs, are you saying Minaya was a better GM than Cashen?

we're talking about Minaya and Alderson and in that context Minaya WON with the Mets and we experienced 2 exciting pennant races under his watch. So when and IF Alderson can do that than I'll accept that he's doing a job even REMOTELY close to Omar Minaya so don't twist things around you excuse making JACKASS.

You are also as bad a front runner that I've ever seen you make Dick Vitale look humble.

You are an unapologetic phony that rambles on here everyday with a million names. You're not a fair person in the least bit. You have an answer for everything, even the day after your Braves COLLAPSED worse than the Mets ever did you're hear on this Mets blog posting your LOVE for the Braves and how they operate and second guessing all of Minaya's moves EVEN THOUGH the Mets collapse and Braves collapse happened ON THE FIELD and there's nothing you can do about it.
You're such an excuse maker that you have to have the last word on every post you ever address with anyone and that tells a lot.

Besides that i just think you're a nut case that has lots of time on his hands to write those manifestos every day.

Now why dont' you go back and learn about the Cardinals minor league system so you can come back here in a few days and tell us all how they did it since you ALWAYS have all the answers to every team's success, right there in your apartment.

Omar signed a bunch of really old guys that fell apart. The Mets had no one to bring up to take the place of these aging injured players. He put all his betting on winning quickly and he lost the bet and had nothing to fall back on. It was great to have a winning team but he didn't set up for a long term solution, he just bet on free agents that were too old. Didn't the Mets have one of if not THE oldest team in MLB? Not say Alderson has all the answers but Omar definitely had a lot of flaws that didn't help the Mets in the long term.

Another dumb article that sounds like a fan rant on WFAN. KRod was a good dump of salary. He waived his contract only because he wasn't in NY. If he could have gotten big bucks from the Mets and forced them into using him as a closer he would have but he wanted to get out of his contract with Milwaukee so he could go somewhere else and close games since they definitely weren't going to use him as a closer. He would have cost $17 million dollars. Thats ridiculous for KRod. Beltran was going to go somewhere after the season anyways so the Mets got a great top prospect for him instead of the nothing they would have gotten after the season. If the Mets were leading the division they wouldn't have done it but they had no shot this year so it made sense. Capuano was a good signing, one year and he ended up at being decent. Nothing spectacular but decent and who really would have expected more out of him? Dickey was a great pitcher this year that should have had a lot better record. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with Dickey. Alderson signed another bunch of nobodies and got nothing from a bunch of them but paid very little for them. Thats not great but its not horrible like some make it seem. Signing Bay, Perez, Castillo to big contracts thats horrible. Alderson hasn't been amazing but he hasn't had a lot to work with this season. This offseason he will be graded on Reyes, which partially won't be up to him because Reyes could decide to go elsewhere for more money.

Minaya in six years had over 60 guys that never played in the Majors again after they left here and money was NEVER an issue for him.

Over sixty guys not good enough to catch on the following year with Houston, KC, Pittsburgh, Washington, Oakland, Baltimore or anyone else. Over 60 and counting. And that's not even counting guys like Omir Santos or Robinson Cancel who played a couple of games each or Oliver Perez who's trying to get back.

Even a lot of our AAA depth was waived from the minors by other teams. Turner, Pridie, Sullivan, Dusty Owens, Feliciano, Hessman, many of it by the Orioles. Now Omar wasn't really here long enough to have developed a real good upper minor league system and anyone who could have, and should have been there was rushed up to the Majors but still does that indicate the readiness of a team to go blowing 1st and 2nd round draft choices left and right? Trading prospects and useful players off the Major league roster? To bring in who? Brandon Knight? Chan Ho Park? Brian Lawrence?

Way WAY too many of those guys through the years for a competitive club to have on it's roster.

We didn't so much have guys that choked, we had guys who couldn't get it done regardless of the situation. Glavine choked, Wagner too, Schoweneiss as well but we had way too many Caudio Vargas, Brian Lawrence, Jorge Sosa, Luis Ayala, Aaron Sele, Guillermo Moto plus we brought up guys that just weren't even close to ready. Humber, Pelfrey, Niese, Kunz, Parnell, none of them did ****. That's more a case of lack of depth. Delgado had two bad half seasons, that wasn't really a choke, it was just two bad half seasons but most of our problems were with depth. When older guys like Pedro, Trachsel, Wagner and El-Duque went down we were stretched. Perez and Maine kept us above water for a while but none of the others could. plus we had bad play from guys who we expected more than being at the bottom of the league like Church and Schneider, Redding and Livan.

We just didn't have the horses, unless everything went right which rarely happens) That simple.

I don't care what money is involved. I'm taking about having a SMART off season and trying to get the best players you can for the positions you need regardless if they are role players, pinch hitters, or starters.

I'm not here to compare who cost what because i would not be surprised if better players at comparable costs to the guys i mentioned were picked up by other teams.
And if that's the case then Alderson also showed bad judgement and showed him and his cronies were not good at making evaluations either. And that can be even MORE frightening than anything else.

So let's leave money that does not belong to you or me out of it.

What money did he spend on Hu? The man with two body parts in his name? None. He merely traded Mike Antonini for him, one bum for another. Why bother mentioning him? Emaus cost the Mets $25,000, chump change for a chump. Buchholz, Young and Bonzer were all low risk guys that got hurt, and Bonzer was supposed to spend the year at AAA anyway. The only one worth complaining about is Carrasco, who was a bad signing, and is totally worthless as a pitcher. But the rest is a bunch of baloney Bayonne.

Omar Minaya has WON with the New York Mets and has also presided over GOOD TEAMS that were in the pennant races in 2007 and 2008.

Come talk to me when/if Alderson does that. In the meantime Alderson is off to an AWFUL START as far as the off season has gone.

Omar Minaya has WON with the New York Mets. Let that sink in.

And the collapses of 2007 and 2008 are NO DIFFERENT then the collapse of YOUR BRAVES this year - which was actually WORSE.

So SHUT IT!

of course here comes a 798 paragraph response listing 3,521 names filled with second guessing and excuses. that nobody will read

Doug Mientkiewicz, Miguel Cairo, Jose Offerman, Brian Daubach, Gerald Williams, Anderson Hernandez, Mike DeFelice, Kaz Ishi, Dae Sung Koo, Mike De Jean, Shingo Takatsu, Manny Aybar, Felix Heredia, Danny Graves, Jose Santiago, Mike Matthews, Tim Hamulack.

All from just 2005 and only guys that actually made it up here, despite having the ability to commit at least 250 million dollars in his first off season.

Sure the REASON is because the farm had been wiped out. Anyone with a brain in their head understands that but teams that are loaded in the minors rarely feel the need to fire their existing GM. These sorts of moves are the things most first year GM's have to do but to me it indicates that we didn't have the horses either in the Majors or the minors to support an extended run at the playoffs and a lot of subsequent go for broke moves, which in fact turned out to be exactly the case.

The proof of that is Minaya's 2nd year was his best. By far. It wasn't even until the playoffs that guys started dropping like flies. The following two years they started falling off almost right away which caused way too many guys like you see listed above playing way too many games down the stretch and even before.

Teams with guys like this on it shouldn't be forking over #1, #2 and #3 draft choices or trading good useful players like Endy Chavez and Joe Smith ALONG with prospects to fill one need.

The team that Omar took over just didn't have enough to support a six year run. By the time the big free agent was finished there was no one closing in. Maybe Ike. That's it, one guy. Talk about Havens and Fern all you want and I'll agree with you to some extent but everyone understands that prospects aren't sure things. That's why you need more of them, not less. There were guys like this on every single one of Omar's teams and because of injuries, which are far more prevelent in older players, caused way too many of them to play far too key a role especially in September.

Both of those lists are reason enough to understand that more talent, and properly developed at that, is required to sustain a good long run that has a great liklihood of winning a World Series or two.

"so now they’re no longer here, is alderson gonna use those 18 million to get us 2 better players? "

If we don't already have a couple guys better than those 2, we're in way more trouble than I thought.

Who do you want to spend money on? someone who plays one of the few positions we are secure at (1B)? A 30 year old pitcher? A player to compete at 2B?

"he was brought here to save $, not to build a championship,"

Yes, Selig sent him here to make the NL team of the biggest market in the world into a $50 million club. that is exactly what the guy who cranks himself to TV ratings and merchandise sales and revenue streams every night wants.

and you need a high profile guy to cut and run on payroll. like they couldn't just tell Ricco to not sign anyone ever again. They needed Alderson and 2 more assistants. and the best way to cut payroll is to increase your staff.

Do you ever just stop and think: Is what I'm saying making sense?

Because you should.
