They walked the rook to get to Wright with the game on the line. Yeah, it’s a no brainer because the realized Wright sucks under pressure not the dilly dally (which you’re famous for) scenarios that you brought up. And the Cubs have done it before.

That’s the benefit of having a LH hitter on the bench. Murphy would have been perfect. Go ahead and walk Duda I’ll pinch hit Murphy for Wright and let him hit against your guy who can’t get out lefty’s or maybe just having Murphy on the bench makes Quadry bring in his last remaining pitcher in the 10th inning of a tied game.

Unfortunately the bench was emptied of LH hitters long before Ortiz even warmed up. Guess Quadry’s seen enough of Ortiz against them this year huh? Thole, Pridie, Harris, Baxter, all gone from the bench. Pridie as a pinch runner and Collins even used Capuano too but once that bench was emptied of LH hitters Quadry knew he could bring in Ortiz even if it meant working around a LH hitter or two so that’s what he did.

What do you think, only hitters have platoon splits? Ortiz has one of the biggest platoon splits I’ve ever seen.

Like I said, total no brainer. Quadrey would have been killed if he let Ortiz get beat by a lefty.

Your just turning a total no brainer managerial move into something against Wright because of some sort of hatred you have for him.

Lucas Duda was walked to pitch to David Wright.

Beltran and Reyes ARE appropriate examples. Bay and Murphy are good examples too – you selectively left them out.

The only way Duda gets pitched to by Ortiz with the winning run on 2B is if there was another LH coming up afterwards but in that case Quadrey doesn’t allow Ortiz to pitch to anyone. He yanks him and gets the last guy left in the pen who CAN get a LH hitter out.

Ortiz can’t. That’s why Quadrey had him walk the lefty. Baseball 101. Shift the odds in your favor. Happens with lots of different moves every game.

When one hit can cost you the game you have to shift the odds as much as possible. .327 or .203 BA against. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist.

As for the excuse making tag that’s your forte. Injuries, bad luck, ect ect. on and on but nice job trying to change the subject spin meister.

Even Jerry Manuel would have recognized that situation and exploited it to get the one out he needed and take his chances in the 11th.

I would have done it too and you know why? And I would have done it if Wright was hot too and you know why? Because I would have PUT THE PRESSURE ON WRIGHT and we all know Wright STINKS under pressure

So you can spin it any way you want (and excuse making is your forte as we all know) and look at any statistic you want the Cubs walked a rook to get to Wright.

And I would have done it too.

They certainly ain’t gonna do that with Beltran on deck, they certainly ain’t gonna make that move if Reyes was on deck and don’t be surprised if they chose to pitch to Duda with a hot Bay on deck either. I would have pitched to Duda if even MURPHY was on deck.

But the Cubs walked Duda to get to Wright. Case closed.

Conversally on deck there is a RH hitter who’s own platoon splits coincidentally work in your favor too.

So, what you do? LH hitters rip Ortiz to the tune of .327 BA and a .633 SLG. RH hitters hit .203 with a .305 SLG and strike out quite often as well.

When one play can win or lose the game for you these sort of moves get made. No different than bringing the OF in when a SAC fly can cost you the game.

Duda’s proven he can hit the ball so your going to give Duda the chance to go with his strengths against your pitchers very glaring weakness and hope for the best? Or are you going to get the one out you need by walking Duda and facing a RH?

Of course your doing that. Quadry would have been killed for getting beat by letting Ortiz pitch to a lefty.

Jeez. This is so elementary it can only be attributed to the rush to bash Wright any way, for any reason.

Hey bash Wright for not getting that run in all you want. He should plate those runs but the fact that Quadry took the bat out of Duda’s hands was a simple no brainer.

When you have a relief pitcher that gets lit up against LH hitters you do not let that pitcher pitch to a LH hitter with the game winning run on 2B in the 10th inning on the road.

Ever.

I don’t care what any splits are you pitch to the kid in that huge spot, not walk the kid to get to one of the team’s “alleged” best hitters no matter if he’s cold or not.

KILLED.

HAMMERED.

NAILED.

Quadry walks ANY LH hitter because he cannot let his pitcher pitch to one in that situation. The fact that Wright’s platoon splits make the move even more appropriate only makes the decision that much easier to make.

Even Jerry Manuel isn’t going to let Ortiz pitch to a LH hitter in a game winning situation. Get real.

Hmmm. Game on the line do I want opponents hitting .327 or .203 against my pitcher? Slugging .633 or .305?

A classic no brainer if there ever was one with the winning run a base hit away.

The Jets pregame was nice as well seeing them unwrap the flag covering the entire field is just beautiful.

As far as the game goes, simply put Wright failed to deliver when the opportunity presented itself. It would of been nice to say the least to see him drive in the winning run but he didn’t.

The Jets on the other hand gave NY a nice comeback victory beating a Cowboys team that handled them pretty well for most of the game who I think have never lost a game when they led by 14 points in the 4th quarter.

That’s all there is to it. Stop trying to rationalize. They WALKED Duda to get to Wright irregardless of the details.

The move makes complete sense but has more to do with Garcia then Wright or Duda, and in a tie game bottom of the 10th and only one guy left in your pen what are you going to do with a ROOGY? Let him pitch to a LH hitter? With the game on the line? In the 10th inning? Men on base? What are you nuts? Garcia gets ROCKED by LH hitters. ROCKED!

I would think that was the reason there was no mention of the IBB to Duda in the short recap of last nights game. Just a humdrum common sense managerial move he probably knew he would have to make when he brought Garcia in, in the first place, because Garcia can’t get a lefty out anymore.

Hardly room in the game recap to mention every no brainer move made by either manager.
