The Cyclones plated 12 runs, scoring in every inning except the first and ninth, with four pitchers combining to hold Staten Island to 5 runs, evening the best-of-three series at one game apiece. Brooklyn forces a decisive third game, winning Game Two by a final score of 12-5. The 2001 Mets: Where Are They Now?

With the 2001 Mets back in the spotlight as we get set to honor the 10th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, I thought I’d hit Wiki to see what most of the players from that team are doing these days. GM Steve Phillips - Co-host of “Jason and the GM” on Sirius Radio, with occasional guest spots on MLB Network and WFAN. MGR Bobby Valentine – Co-hosts ESPN Sunday Night Baseball as color commentator, [...]

Cyclones Fall To The Evil Empire In Game One

NYPL Play-Offs

While the bats were fast asleep last night, there were some pretty good pitching performances in the New York Penn League Division Series opener between the Staten Island Yankees and the Brooklyn Cyclones. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, their great pitching went to waste, as they succumbed to the bad guys by a score of 2-0. The Yankees took the lead for good in the 2nd, with lead-off singles by 1B Reymond Nunez and then 2B Casey Stevenson. [...]

ny_metsfirehouse_576

Some current and former New York Mets baseball players visited firehouses in New York City on Friday to pay tribute to first responders who perished in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. John Delcos: I’m All For Bringing Izzy Back In 2012

Jason Isringhausen told ESPN he’d like to pitch next year, and I’m all for giving him a one-year deal. Nothing longer. Isringhausen pitched well enough to warrant attention from teams looking for a veteran presence in the bullpen, but I don’t see anybody, the Mets included, signing him strictly as a closer. However, he showed the capability of getting the job done when he had to. Isringhausen saved seven games after Francisco Rodriguez was traded, [...]

Mets Lose Both Games Of Doubleheader To Braves, 6-5 and 5-1

JBay

Chris Schwinden made his major league debut and was hit hard in the Mets 6-5 loss, and in the second game of the double header, Dillon Gee overcame early trouble to hand the ball to a bullpen that would cough up two more runs in the Mets second loss, a 5-1 defeat. Game One Chris Schwinden made his MLB debut, and it will probably not be a memorable one for many. Schwinden went five innings, [...]

Flight 93 Memorial Dedication

I’ve just seen how Americans cope with disaster, again. It’s with their hearts and souls. Most of the major TV networks just covered the unveiling of a wall in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. A field where the plane out of Boston on that terrible morning of September 11, 2001 was commandeered by a group of the passengers who voted to have the plane crash there rather than let the plane crash into the United States Capitol. [...]

Could Duda Be An Everyday Player In 2012

Ever since Lucas Duda was called up for his third stint in the majors, he has clearly shown that it was his time to earn a starting spot in 2012. Now the question is can he be the everyday outfielder the Mets need? Well that could be debated, Terry Collins has made it clear that he expects to keep most of his roster into 2012. In the month of August, Duda had a batting average [...]
