Clayton I agree. This was a very good baseball front office film. Pitt and Hill were phenomenal. But I think the story did have some flaws. Many of us on here are not only Met fans, but baseball fans as well. For those of us who read the book, or folled baseball in the 90′s to the present day should be right at home with this pic. I don’t think the film was detailed enough to the general baseball fan or the baseball fan for dummies. Art Howe was very close to being fired during the 2002 season with the A’s until they won the 20 in a row. I thought he had another year left on his contract, which the A’s happily voided when the Mets took him off their hands in 2003? David Justice was not acquired by the A’s from the Yankees, he was acquired from the Mets prior to the 2003 season for Mark Guthrie. Paul De Podesto (Peter Brand) became an assistant to Billy Beane in 1999 I believe, not 2002 as depicted in the movie. The big three of Zito, Hudson and Mulder were not shown as much as I thought they would have been. Neither was the 2002 AL MVP Miguel Tejada. They made it seem that it was Beane, Brand, Hatteberg and Justice responsible for the 20 game win streak alone. I guess It would have been too much to showcase all of the A’s in a 2 hour movie. In the end, I liked how it put the Mets on the movie map and puts them at a mainstream focus now that Alderson and De Podesto are working for the Mets. Billy Beane was a former top prospect for the Mets and Art Howe hasn’t managed to this day after his failed 2 years with the Mets.

Its a solid film and Pitt and Hill are terrific. A few pet peaves- They kept showing the A’s losing when the story started to center in on there 82 season but waited too long to show what there actual record was, and they briefly touched on the first round lose to the Twins. Still a sold film with Pitt giving a terrific performance. ONe more thing did Billy Beane have any love life at all? Therenot a single scene where hes involved with a women. He is seperated or divorced from his wife who has a new boyfriend but he is alone the whole story.

Anything else love The Sandlot as much as I do? All these great movies, and some are really great, but that’s the only one about kids, which makes it even better. Too bad they had to ruin it with all the sequels.

All Kevin Costner baseball movies, The Natural, Major League, A League of their Own,the first Bad News Bears to name a few.

Parker, they did talk briefly about him losing his family. There was a part about baseball players/execs hardest strain on their marriage is when they retire/live at home because then they have to live together for an extended period of time, and in some cases realize they have nothing in common.

The stepfather and the daughter’s song, etc. were added by the director for effect.

Beane is a fairly modest guy. He never claimed he was the smartest man ever to walk this earth. The funny part is like he admitted in the interview, all teams take part in Saber with the Red Sox perhaps topping the list and the Yankees not too far behind. Its all about finding an edge , that’s nothing new really.

That is not what the movie or the book is about. You are ignorant. You probably wrote your book reports in grade school by copying the inside flap.

-Every team that wins has player that overachieve
-Never is it mentioned that pitching isn’t important.

Any team in baseball can beat another in a short series. Winning 103 games in a 162 game season is an accomplishment for any team.

The book did not cover his life outside of baseball very much. The daughter and ex-wife were written into the movie to please Hollywood.

Crappy movies usually do hit dvd quick – but this is NOT a crappy movie according to those that actually have seen it.

It’s getting very good reviews.
