We WERE 26th in FPCT but at .981 where the Phillies (#1) were at .988
Considering how many Ks that team was getting 1299 to our 1126 that alone says they were merely better because they didn’t get as many chances to screw up!

If the Pitching had maintained it’s ERA from last year there would have been 66.5 fewer runs which would put us in the 590′s of RA range behind only the Phillies and the Giants! Two of the best Pitching staffs in the league!

Took Two of three from the Braves.
Beat Phillies twice in the same day and only lost the game their Ace Halladay pitched!

Pretty encouraging that even our AAA guys can beat the overpowering Beats of the east and the team that knocked one of them out of the playoffs isn’t it?

One thing I think made a big difference for the pitching staff was that the defense got a lot worse this year. Last year it was really good, this year pretty bad. Pagan’s defense was MUCH worse. Murphy, Turner, Duda and Thole had quite a few moments themselves.

The pitching also gave up a league average number of HR’s. You wouldn’t really expect that pitching half the games in Citi Field. All things being equal (and I know they won’t all be) moving the fences in is going to hurt us more than help us, especially if the D doesn’t get tightend up.

They didn’t have to. They were putting a minor league team out there much of the last 2 months, especially with Bay often hurt (and never producing anyway), Beltran gone, Duda hurt and Pagan, well, where the hell WAS he? Baxter, Pridie, George Theodore, et al. Give me a break. Then the infield with Evans, Turner, Tejada…..weak hitting .275 averages at best, with nothing more than promise will get you nowhere. Add Thole and Paulino and the fact that neither could throw out any runners, the bullpen was awful, starting pitching was headed by Mike Headcase……Who needed this team to quit? The best thing about the season was not having to watch Ollie Perez and Luis Castillo. Sure, next year will have a healthy Wright, Davis and Duda. What else?
