Well, ya. The guys who are actually at the game, within the organizations and have spent decades learning the nuances of MLB and are actually paid to evaluate talent most likely know a hell of a lot than the guys at home watching what the camerman is showing us.

by the way, on the day sandy announces he signed byrdak he allowed 2 runs, 1 hit and 1 walk and blew the “save” while recording NO OUTS.. lol.. but hey, we needed a lefty so.. alderson is a great GM, i am sure he knows more than us the fans who watch the games everyday.

I’ll reserve opinion once I know for how much but the fact they didn’t list a number is pretty good proof that it wasn’t an exhorbitant amount, and as long as it’s a reasonable number I really have no problem with the signing.

he’s been more reliable than some other guys we have in the pen and by locking him up now that just means more time to focus on replacements for the other guys when FA opens!

I think the Mets were quick to re-sign Byrdak after last year’s failure to re-sign Takahashi. I found myself on multiple occassions analyzing in-game situations this year thinking that “Taka would’ve been perfect for this kind spot.” Sandy didn’t let Byrdak fly to coup.

I think Byrdak chose to re-sign for the Mets to ensure job security and to place himself in a situation where he is succeeding and making money in a location where he enjoys living.

I also think that Herrera’s emergence in the bullpen has given the Mets a respectable 1-2 punch from the left side in a division with fierce lefty hitters (Howard, Utley, McCann, Freeman, etc…)

Byrdak’s signing is a solid, albeit modest, move by a great GM, Sandy Alderson. It’s one less issue that he has to resovle.

Signing Tim Byrdak for next year has nothing to do with the Mets being a small market team.

Tim deserved to be signed…AND…the Mets have a small market mentality – they’re broke, for Pete’s sake.

The two things are not related.

So that nobody is confused are you saying the 24 games the Mets played that Byrdak appeared in June and July did not matter?

Be careful alex, don’t make us go back to your quotes about how trading Beltran when the team was a playoff contender…. they may haunt you!

You also understand what a LOOGY is SUPPOSED to do right? Get lefties out. Because of the shape of the Mets pen, Byrdak’s struggles came mostly against righty hitters. Can you go out right now and guarantee a better LOOGY to join the Mets at a low rate for 1 year?
