I’ve Got A Bad Feeling About This…
What we’ve never seen from the Mets has been a batting title winner, and Jose Reyes is leading by micro-percentage points. Undoubtedly, a feel good story for the Mets would be for him to win the tile and announce he’s staying.
It would give us a fresh feel and sense of optimism heading into winter, which for the Mets is two days away.
But, I can’t help but think Reyes winning the title will be a paring gift before he hits free agency. For an organization whose history has been tumultuous – some would even say cursed at times – it seems fitting.
In a roundabout way it would be like Tom Seaver, David Cone, Nolan Ryan and Dwight Gooden throwing their no-hitters as ex-Mets.
Part of me doesn’t want to see Reyes win the title and flaunt it in another uniform, but another part of me knows Mets history well enough to think that will be the case.

Part of me doesn’t want to see Reyes win the title and flaunt it in another uniform, but another part of me knows Mets history well enough to think that will be the case.”
so, i am assuming you will be rooting for him to go 0-4 today and flaunt his 330 avg somewhere else? way to go john, stay positive (roll eyes)..
Reyes isn’t staying. Let him get a batting title elsewhere.
This one time I agree with alex68, why would we want him to not win the title? Even if Reyes goes somewhere else, he will have still have had his batting title AS a MET! That has never happened before and I don’t care if it ends with Reyes signing somewhere else. Well of course I don’t want that to happen but I definitely want Reyes to win the batting title as a Met. It would certainly ruin Braun’s much superior season if Reyes keeps ahead at the last minute. Braun will still get MVP anyways.
I agree with you guys we should all be pulling for Reyes to get that batting title and applaud him if he wins it no matter what happens afterwards.
sure a batting title is nice. But, plenty of guys have 1 flukish year and do something like that. He is hitting .333 or so, not flirting with .400!
finishing 1st or 2nd by .001 is not going to make a heck of a lot of difference once the season is over.
ohhh man, if this was david wright……………………………
you’d be calling him a stat padder………
yes i will, i gave you thumbs up on that… but funny that not even on a losing season like this one he was able to pad his stats, and looked more and more as the UNCLUTCH PLAYER i described him to be 4 years ago…
Just because you describe him as one, doesn’t make it true.
i describe him as one??? he’s giving us fans ALL KINDS OF INDICATIONS he is a BIG TIME CHOKER.. what more prove do you want??!? jesus christ!
Name a better 3B Alex!
You know he makes the All Star team just about every year…
You have a better 3B in mind thats available name him!
Wrights wituation will be dealt with next season. Thats when his contract runs out!
You need to be patient until then regarding the guy who it appears stiffed you for an autograph or something like that because I can’t understand why anyone would hate the guy that much!
No he isn’t HOF!
Isn’t supposed to be!
as of now,
ramirez, beltre, youkilies, arod, longoria, zimmerman, polanco, chipper are all better 3B than wright or had better season..
I guess Wright’s Hall of Fame stats just aren’t enough for people who like to put arbitary labels on players. He is only one of the best players the Mets have ever had and DEFINITELY the best 3B EVER for the Mets. Thats just not good enough though. Your ridiculous hatred of Wright must have some basis. Did he kick your puppy or something?
He is only one of the best players the Mets have ever had”
ARE YOU SERIOUS??!??!?!??!?!?!?
He may not be the best player the Mets ever had but he is certainly in the top eschelon.
Hall Of Fame stats?
Of course, in true Mets fashion, Reyes will strikeout looking on his final at bat, lose the batting title, and sign elsewhere.
No-hitter, batting titles, MVP’s, there’s plenty of things this franchise hasn’t accomplished in almost 50 years, and in many ways we’re still no different than those lovable 1962 Mets.
Does anyone really believe Reyes is going to continue to hit this good after he gets his contract?
I sure don’t!
He will come back to his career numbers (around .290 BA) for the most part and toy with .300+ but it is foolish to think that this is the player he will always be!
What is key is that he is CAPABLE of doing it which means he can repeat it if he is properly motivated and we should resign him (because no matter what you think about this year he has earned that payday) and then it’s the Job of the manager and coaches to KEEP him that motivated!
Not being the only producer on the roster might help there!
We should do whatever it takes to resign Reyes, I don’t care about the Dollars as they are not mine they belong to Wilpon and I don’t really care about how often he can eat steak or what lesser Vintage wine he might be able to drink with it.
All I care about is this team starting the habit of keeping players who are All Stars and produce and finding, getting developing more of them!
No matter what the cost! I won’t ask them to spend STUPID money just to spend but they WILL have to spend to keep what they find and to get the few players they need that they could not find without spending money!
And mostly that relates to Pitching!
I want Reyes signed. And before you Wright haters ‘like’ this comment, I don’t want to see Wright going anywhere either. From what I’ve been reading here, I think I’m one of the rare fans that wants to see both stay.
That being said, I’m afraid Reyes staying or not staying is going to be largely up to Reyes. I can’t imagine a scenario where he doesn’t file for FA. And I can’t imagine there won’t be one or two GMs willing to throw a ridiculous amount of $$ and/or years at him that doesn’t make sense on any level. It’s going to be all up to Jose what offer he takes.
SRT,
that’s fine with me, but wright can get us pitching which we desperately need, given the financial situation is clear the mets (sandy said so himself) can’t afford to pay more than 3 players $15 million +, which then creates the question of who goes? bay is not going anywhere, santana either, is more like who do you keep? reyes or wright?
So what if Jose re-signs and then doesn’t hit .330 again but if he gets his 50+ SB, 100+ runs, 15+ triples and keeps his OB% close to .370 then he will do what he is paid to do plus his he is gold glove SS despite his 18 errors, he gets to balls that others don’t.
i find how many ppl call wright the greatest met of all time, well, i will say his numbers were in large due to having a great lineup around him, mostly reyes, beltran and delgado to take away the preaaure, here’s something amazing i found, his stats from 2005-2008 and his stats after mets fans basically appointed him the captain and a HoF:
average from 2005-2008:
Gms 158 Atbats 600 runs 106 Dbls 42 Hr’s 29 Rbi’s 112 Sb’s 22 k’s 115
since appointed (by his legion of mets fans & himself)leader of the team:
Gms 134 Atbats 500 runs 78 Dbls 33 Hr’s 18 Rbi’s 78 Sb’s 20 k’s 132
to be fair, i also average as if it was a 162 game season:
Gms 163 Atbats 608 runs 95 Dbls 40 Hr’s 22 Rbi’s 95 Sb’s 24 k’s 163
so…. while he went into the prime of his baseball career as some ppl call it, he actually regress and became a worst player, i was under the impression you become better, you know, kinda like reyes and his BA. he became a better hitter, wright after appointed himself a leader (“I don’t feel the need to have to defend myself as a leader”) have become a worst player than we thought he’d be. from a top 5 MVP candidate in 2007 to just a marginal player at best. and of course, we all know he can’t be trusted in a big spot.. so.. why the need to keep calling this guy the greatest is beyond me.
one last comment before I grant your wish and put you on permanent ignore (and the next time you actually “talked baseball” might be the first!).
Those numbers, other than an increase in Ks, are pretty damed the same annualized. and having to do that points out an important fact, he was fully healthy the first 3 years, and missed chunks the last 3 from a beaning, and a broken back (not to mention playing with the back and through other injuries).
And the decrease in counting stats (runs, RBIs) certainly hast to do with the team around him. Not from protecting him, but by giving him guys to drive in and be driven in by.
and man, if you think those stats (especially for a 3B man) are marginal at best, you need to think again.
so wait, you ppl here KILLED reyes and beltran for being hurt, NOW you wanna use that card on him!!!!?????? that is exactly why we think what we think about the legion of fans of his, you guys can make up all type of excuses for him yet failed to use it on other mets players, i get it, he’s good looking and you will defend him no matter what.. look at you simply stating “his Rbi’s are decreasing due to the team around him” yet, how come you don’t wanna admit he PADDED HIS STATS DUE TO THE TEAM AROUND HIM AS WELL!?? A TEAM AS I STATED ABOVE THAT HAD A HEALTHY REYES, BELTRAN AND DELGADO?? when he does good is because of him, he’s a legend, a godsend, when he does marginal as he’s been doing is the team’s fault.. amazing!!!!
What people are you talking about?
No, when he does well, it’s a team effort. When he does poorly, it’s a team effort. Although, he’s never really done poorly. In 2009, his power dropped. In 2010, he found it again. That’s about as much of a “difference” as you’re going to find.
And who killed Reyes and Beltran for being hurt?
Padded his stats?
That’s a good one, do you have an encore for this funny, ignorant, factless post?
No one killed any player for getting hurt and no one ever claimed Wright was good looking, or even cares what he looks like.
Where does this crap come from?
