Home Sweet Home? Mets Have Second Most Home Losses In MLB

Blame it on Citi Field… Blame it on the bullpen… Blame it on the starting pitching… Blame it on the offense… Whatever you want to blame it on, the Mets won-loss record at home this season has been horrid.
At 31-44 in Citi Field, only the Houston Astros at 28-46 have lost more games in their homepark than the Amazins.
The Mets have just completed a 1-8 homestand including getting swept in four games by the Washington Nationals. That is the worst homestand for the Mets since Aug. 23-Sept. 2, 2004, when they were 1-10 (minimum six games) according to ESPN.
It’s also the first time the Nationals have swept the Mets since they were the Montreal Expos. The Mets have lost the season series to the Nationals, 10-8.
Yesterday, David Wright’s frustration with Citi Field reached new heights. After he flied out to deep left with the bases loaded in the seventh inning, Wright turned to the dugout and violently slammed his helmet to the ground in disgust. He then remained frozen on the field with his hands at his hips and a blank stare on his face. It was kind of bizarre to see Wright so upset and angry.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating,” Wright said. “I felt like I had a pretty good at-bat against a tough reliever.”
The Mets are sending out plenty of signals that there will be changes at Citi Field in 2012. Expect those fences to come in and those 16-foot walls to come down.
Earlier in the week, even the pitchers (R.A. Dickey and Bobby Parnell) acknowledged that something needed to be done.

If only Wright could slam a ball into the gap or over the wall with more frequency and as intensely as he slammed his helmet after his latest CHOKE job, he might have helped the Mets and himself yesterday.
Hey, David! That’s how we slam the remote control when you botch up another chance to impact a game at the end of the game.
Honestly…Who is shocked Wright didn’t come thru yesterday? I’m not. You shouldn’t be either. He has been famous for this for years now. Why should it be any different?
The same way Reyes came through the night before with 1 out and Turner on 3rd popped out to short?
Yeah – that was great too…….
Honestly who isn’t shocked that it’s once again all Wright’s fault with this short sided supposed Mets fan base.
It’s an agenda to beat Wright over the head every time he fails in a big spot while at the same time giving every single other player a complete and total pass.
In the last four games of the 2008 season Reyes went 3-17 and Delgado went 2-15 (0-8 with men on) and yet The Wright hater specifically points to these’s games when Wright was OB 9-16 times and was stranded or eliminated off the base paths by Delgado on numerous times.
It’s an agenda based not on what actually transpires on the field but based on personal hatred of one of the players.
You sound angry. What does the 2008 Mets have to do with what happened on the field last night? I dont get your connection. You’re mad at Delgado and Reyes because we didn’t win last night?
lmao!! squidoo, this guy seems gung ho on the mets of 2008, he just don’t wanna let go the fact that wright failed in the biggest spot of the season when he struck out having murphy at 3rd with no outs.. let him be, one day he’ll come to reality..
You are the one that keeps bringing it up – are you kidding me?
The biggest spot of the season? You ignorance gets worse by the day.
Have you read this site the last few days or years for that matter?
omar, perfect way to sum it up..bases loaded, 2 outs, david wright at the plate against a guy with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.28 Whip, and ……… fly out to LF.. we ALL knew he was not gonna come trough, i don’t understand any mets fan that actually believe this guy is clutch or he’s not a choker. is amazing really, but i am sure that clarified the post from JOE D about why ppl dislike wright… he’s why i call him an excuse maker:
“Obviously, it’s frustrating,” Wright said. “I felt like I had a pretty good at-bat against a tough reliever.”
tough reliever????? he’s got a 3.65 ERA and career 4.09 ERA and he’s a TOUGH RELIEVER?????
another excuse for why he failed… i failed in a big spot because i was facing a “tough reliever”
LOL Alex. I wasn’t upset. I just accepted it like I usually do with Wright. Anyone who expected Wright to come thru in that spot is a LIAR or is delusional. The man simply doesn’t get it done when the game is on the line.
omar… amen to that!!! there is a lot of liars in this blog i tell ya….
Liars? Like yourself and your teenage clique…….
so trade him to the phillies. That way, the same exact AB and he would have had a grand slam in that park!
All players are going to get out more often than not in pressure situations. Only one will be brought up and endlessly referred to over and over and over again because some people hate him for things that occur off the field while giving a complete and total pass to EVERYONE else. Like Carlos Delgado for instance who went 2-15 in the last four games of 2008 with 1 RBI (a SAC) and ZERO hits with anyone OB leaving all 13 baserunners (except that one SAC) exactly where they were if not eliminating them with his two double plays and yet the Wright hater actually points to these last four games to point the finger at wright who was OB 9-16 during this period. Never a word about Delgado. Oh no. Reyes, (3-17 in the last 4 games) Never mentioned. Oh no. Delgado’s 2-15 and Reyes 3-17 is just fine, it was all Wright’s fault
Very strange and weird obsession to say the least.
Defending Wright again, huh? Can’t point out that Wright choked again yesterday without running to the MVP of the Mets in 2008? Follow me, Agee. Repeat after me..”David Wright choked with the game on the line yesterday afternoon.” Repeat it a few times and you will begin to let go of all the hope you have for Wright being the next “Chipper” and what not. You will also be a realistic Met fan.
how is hitting a deep drive that would have been a GS in the majority of ball parks choking?
what??? deep drive?? how about a hit???? we don’t need a GS, we needed a HIT!!!!!!!!
PPUUUUUULLLLLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEE stop the f*ng smoochfest!!!
we get it, he’s good looking, he’s americ-an, he speaks english well, he’s nominated for man of the year, he leaps building on a single bound.. but he’s a f’ing CHOKER!!!!!!!
I wrote that “at one time I had hope” that he would be another another Chipper Jones, just like at one time I had hope that Reyes would be a Rickey Henderson at SS. That hope has evaporated a few years ago.
Nice attempt at twisting my words though.
Same formula for Wright. When the game is on the line in inning 7-8-9, Wright is a choke artist. Sounds harsh, but reality doesn’t lie. Pressure games, non pressure games, good team, bad team, good pitcher, average pitcher, poor pitcher, righty, lefty, starter, closer, middle man, set up man. It doesn’t matter. The results are more or less the same. Wright will choke.
Why don’t we stop blaming ONE player for the Mets troubles this year and blame the ENTIRE team instead. Look, 9 players take the field every inning and all 9 players have an opportunity to contribute either positively or negatively to the final outcome of each game. You can point to Wright’s numerous failures with runners on base or to his recent spat of errors at 3rd base as contributing factors to Met loses, and you’d be right. He did play a big role in those loses. However, his teammates also had chances to pick the team up and come through with clutch hits or good defensive plays and simply didn’t.
I am not a David Wright apologist in any way, in fact I am as frustrated and annoyed as anyone over his lack of production and many times recently have privately felt it may be time for David to move on from the Mets. My point here is that it takes 25 players to win and 25 players to lose and it isn’t fair to always single out one player for “choking” when there are plenty of other players “choking” as well.
Only one player is ever singled out. Even in big pressure games in which he came through way more often than others. Where every AB was pressure packed. Where others failed repeatedly which was the very reason we were behind or tied in the late innings but they always get a pass. Every single time. Games in which Delgado or Reyes did zippo in pennant races are pointed to as examples of Wright’s failures by Wright haters even when he had two or three successful AB’s and others had none.
The 31 blown saves are always glossed over and doesn’t even begin to count the games that were tied or we were down just one that the bullpen pissed away. Probably another 20 there. The starts by guys who couldn’t get through 5 innings down the stretch without giving up 5 runs. Never a word about any of that.
There are only a few people who continually blame just one guy and if that guy had come through it wouldn’t have mattered cause we were out of it.
When one guy gets criticized for not driving in a single run in the last series in 2008 (as Wright recently was a couple of days ago) who only had three runners OB for him (all on 1B) and a potential HOFer brought in here to lead, drives in just one run while having nine runners on in his AB’s (3 in scoring position) and goes 0-5 with runners on and 2-11 in the series while Wright went 4-10 with a walk and a HBP and does actually get hits with men OB, it’s an unfair double standard to blame just that one guy.
But that’s what they do. They blame just one guy and even choose games in which he did come through a lot more than others to try to make their point.
It’s almost like they think whatever happens in innings 1-8 have nothing to do with the ultimate result.
Very very curious.
