If Clutch does exist it would have to be defined. What is it? BA with RISP in late and close games? I think we could all agree that that is the best definition or maybe you go with % of runners on driven in, in those situations or something else but it would have to be performance over and above what the player produces in ALL situations before you can label that player clutch.

In fact it would be pretty difficult to label someone clutch who hasn't had 2 or 3 years worth of AB's in whatever situation you decide to go with. All you could do there is say that someone has come through with some clutch hits early in his career but it would be premature to label the player clutch yet, excepting perhaps some monster clutch hits in the pennant race and post season over more than just one year.

So if clutch exists, tell us. Who's clutch? Let's get some examples going. Some guys who are currently active so we can continue to follow them and see if they keep it up. Guys who have had a few years and appear to be good examples of players who have displayed this character trait so far. First guesses, not second guesses.

Guys on other teams. Guy's in the AL, NL across the spectrum of Major League baseball.

Whatever reasonable criteria anyone wants to select and a performance that is 10-15% better in those situations.

Doesn't have to be a big hitter either. Give us a handful of guys who aren't good hitters but raise their game in those situations and a handful of guys who are good hitters and do the same.

After all if the character trait exists, it should be easy to identify 10 guys bare minimum who posses it who are both in the Majors long enough to have a certain track record and young enough that they can be expected to get plenty of more opportunities.

You select the criteria and the threshold of performance above the norm.

Don't just tell us who isn't clutch, tell us who is, and most importantly who's going to continue to be.

     Any takers?

I'm going with that whole 'lame duck' manager mindset - sorta like Riggleman this year.

So the rumors go, Collins was brought in for 2 years during the 'transition'. That probably would have become a real distraction about mid season next year.

Yep,

Francesa just said now the Mets will have about 120 million dollar payroll and that's what Alderson, Depo, & Ricciardi were asking for. Now they got it and many good GMs have won with that payroll so now here's their chance.

Hmmmm.....Breaking News.

The judge in the clawback case has dismissed all but 2 counts against the Wilpons and Katz.

Can we please resign Reyes now?

Seriously, they must have seen this as a good chance of happening since the minority investor deal fell through at the 11th hour.
