Bell was a victim of small samples and bad luck. His peripheral stats were fine. Kent did just fine here as well. Not as well as in SF, but he didn’t suck.

heath bell f*ing sucked for us.. just like izzy when we had him, just like jeff kent!!!! some ppl exceed some place else, here in NY the pressure is different.. trust me, i spoke to some players back in DR that have told me personally, how is different to play in NY.. ask billy wagner, who was choking in houston and philly and noone was noticing, got here, choke, the pressure mounts!!!!!!!

Those of us that want to learn more give a damn. Maybe if we had done a better job embracing peripheral stats and understanding sample sizes, we’d have had Heath Bell closing for us all these years.

Thanks for the update. I think with Wheeler, Mets fans need to do the following:

A) Realize a pitcher is in A ball because he has work to do. This works for both people who think he is the next Cy Young and people who are begging for ways to be critical of the trade

B) Watch his control as Craig mentioned but also his Homeruns Allowed. We know (or we should) that Wheeler can strike batters out, as long as he keeps the pace up then I am happy. His control and homeruns allowed will dictate how ready to become a big league pitcher he is.

You can’t really tell a lot (in my opinion) about a pitcher while in A Ball. AA is the true test. This is why the hype machine on Matt Harvey has started to pump the brakes a ltitle bit. Doesn’t mean Harvey isn’t a solid prospect, it just means he is struggling in AA and that is a big test.

Harvey just had some bad luck mixed with a small sample size. When he first got to Binghamton, his BABIP ballooned to over .400. He’s still at about .380, but it is coming down.

so, let me get this straight, we go googooogaga, for a guy in single A with a 3.90 ERA and 1 win, yet, we need to pump the brake on harvey a little bit because he’s struggling in Double A, a year AFTER HE DOMINATED SINGLE A!???
consistancy or either you’re trying to somehow give this front office too much credit, i know you LOVE depodesta and co, but be consistent in your comments, is ok to love wheeler but to DOGGED harvey is unfair.. guess what, harvey will be here first than wheeler and probably will be way better.. also, familia is a guy who has ACE stuff ok.. stop salivating about a guy who hasn’t yet DOMINATED the way harvey and familia have ok..

Excuse me? I said this was a good post in my comment. I thought you went out of your way to turn Wheelers solid performace into a mud slinging contest. I liked you better when you were objective and didnt resort to name calling and insults to make your points. And as I predicted there would be no mention of Wheeler by Maniac after a good start out of pure hatred for Alderson.

And with hardly a track record of any kind to run on it makes it even that much more curious why there would be comments by Maniac only when there is a negative one and never a positive for the new administration.

At least I have pointed out, frequently, the good that Minaya has done and the organizational hurdles put in his way. Maniac points out only what he suspects will turn out badly and bashes Alderson every chance he gets.

Maniac even went so far as to credit Minaya for drafting Lenny DiNardo “who is still in the Majors.” while discrediting Depodesta for drafting Either because “he was traded before he made it out of the minors.”

I’m sure Maniac would far and away prefer DiNardo to Either on his favorite baseball team 100 times out of 100.

Alderson did nothing to help this team this off season. Well compared to Minaya those are big shoes to follow.

In the last two years Omar’s off seasons included Redding, Livan, Putz, Perez and Bay. That’s a hard standard to live up to.

Tranin’ Wheeler ‘aint gonna do Jack because DePo don’t know jack. OmarFan says his ranking at Baseball America is “spooky.” That’s good enough for me.

We should have just traded him for the Animal. Got Chris Carter back here. That guy’s worth TWO #1 draft choices. Beltran was just a 2+ month rental. Hard to get a true high ceiling top shelf prospect like Chris Carter for a 2 month rental.

Besides you can never have enough 1B/LF/DH types in this organization. The Animal would have given us another one…….just in case.

Great to see. Hopefully he pitches close to this the rest of the way and gets a couple of AA starts? He should be starting in AA next year beside Harvey and Gorski.
