That doesn’t mean Rodriguez/Kinzer was the one trying to drop it or that he was going to give the Mets the same deal he gave the Brewers. He had all the leverage.

We don’t know who brought up the mutual option, we don’t know what terms were discussed and we don’t know exactly why Rodriguez went to Boras. people are only assuming its because Kinzer screwed up the contract details.

For all we know, Rodriguez dropped Kinzer because he didn’t submit the no trade list. Then, he hired Boras, who pretty much specializes in holding teams hostage.

The day he punched that man and then got hurt, EVERYBODY wanted him gone. EVERYBODY. I don’t care when or how, I’m glad he was done. He was a waste of $ and a declining pitcher and he’s somebody else’s problem now.

At the end of the day the GUARANTEE was dropping the salary for next year, and getting 2 players back. You don’t know who the players are so you’re weighing the trade value based on no knowledge.

If he wanted the option gone, he would have gone to the media the same way he did AFTER he was traded and said he is willing to drop the option to stay with the Mets in 2011. He didn’t.
