Sarge - Thanks for your response - you and I are on the same page here - Terry is simply doing his job - plus. These Mets for the most parts are in the Big City for their first real baseball job and he is providing answers to their questions and treating them like the men they are.
I like your comparing him to Ron Gardenhire - lots of managers are more like Terry Collins - Mike Scoscia, Terry Francona, - and fewer are like Tony La Russa these days - thank goodness. This is a person to person job and Terry has fit right in.

Metsie - Terry Collins has certainly done all the things you mentioned, but the way he interacts with his players really shows what he is doing. He is leading these fairly young players as he should and it is working out very well. Just think - so many of the current Mets are in their early 20's and this is their first venture into Big Time Baseball. No wonder they play hard for Terry - he's been very understanding about life in the Big City for them, and they appreciate his guidance. A winning combination all the way around.

Des - Thanks for the nice words about Dave. He was truly a special person and writer.
Everyone who read his Sunday Morning Column "I Was Thinking" in the New Haven Register knew they had found a friend there. As a Mets fan, he was in the minority in Yankee land, but he didn't care - he simply loved the Mets.

Terry has been the one constant in a sea of injuries, rumors, mental and physical errors and dealing with the most inquiring media in sports.

He has been the father figure to those young players that are playing more than expected and he has allowed the veteran presence, David, Carlos, R.A. and Jose to play their part while fitting in where needed.

He is a breath of fresh air after the tenure of Manuel and the too soon promotion of Willie.

I hope going forward that he is allowed to be his own man and to have the necessary input in player moves that affect the 25 man roster.
Maybe he will be our Ron Gardenhire?

I agree with everything you said about Terry.
He has been exhuberant, supportive, and CREATIVE in how he has kept this team playing despite all that has gone against them and instilled in them the NEVER GIVE UP attitude we are witnessing today.

I sure hope he can maintain his positive nature and nuturing outlook and that the NY Media doesn't just beat the life out of him as they always seem to do when they get tired of blaming the player, the GM, and the owners for the problems.

If Terry stays exactly as he is he could be the long term manager this team has never had...We never had the Bobby Cox Atlanta has had, Never had the Earl Weaver...

And Sadly it is the Media here that has always turned a good man, a good baseball guy into a miserable and fireable person.

I sure hope that doesn't happen here because as much as I had some reservations about him he sure has quieted any doubts I had about him!

I just hope NY doesn't chew him up and spit him out as they have so many good managers before him.

Thanks Joe for adding the Dave Solomon piece - the only thing not mentioned in it is that Dave was a real Mets fan, but he had to be impartial in his work. It's been a long week, and I am happy to be back.
