I'll be honest... I have a ton of baseball friends, having worked in the sport in the past I've grown quite a wide array of fans. I still can't find a Rangers fan though.

But to be honest, not one of them txt'd me
“Why did you guys get rid of K-Rod?” “You guys are still in it? Why’d you unload Beltran?”

Not one.

Reyes I'll give you. People I know think they have to keep him. I mean maybe it's just that I know a different breed of baseball fan, I don't know. When the Mets got Wheeler for Beltran I had 4 (yes 4) Giants fans text me a sentiment of "Beltran better be worth it"

I agree with your premise though. People pity Mets fans. And that is why Alderson is here. To try and CHANGE the culture. We've tried it Phillips, and Omar's way. It failed. Public perception either didn't change or it got worse. So now it's time for something different.

Well being a cynic of Human Nature I have to point out that in most cases that awkward pause is more about people NOT really caring and searching fo the words to make it sound like they do! They tend to care more about not sounding Callous than any condition you might suffer from or going through.

And the fact that you think People pity you when you wear a Met Jersey (from any era) would be more about YOUR perception of attitude than any truth in the attitude of those you interact with.

YOU feel embarassed it's not that they say to themselves Oh this poor sod he likes those awful Mets. Truth is they don't really care anymore who you root for than what you had for dinner the previous night.

They may comment that the team isn't doing well or IS doing well based on current events but a negative comment doesn't mean they pity you or feel bad for you. It's just idle conversation between people who generally like each other and nothing more!

How YOU feel about the team influences how comments regarding them are read in your own mind.
So if you think people are feeling bad for you because your a Met fan thats says more about how YOU feel about being a Met fan than their perception of you!

I am a Met and Miami Dolphin fan. Nither team has done anything well in over 20 years! And I never seem to feel like people pity me for the team doing badly or any lack of pride when I'm wearing something that identifies me as a fan. Maybe because when they are bad I'm the FIRST to say so if it comes up and tell them WHY they are bad!

Either you are proud of being a fan of the team you follow (regardless of results) or your not. And if your not then the problem isn't people feel sorry for you for wearing your teams colors, YOU feel embarassed to wear it at all unless they have a good record.

Says more about YOU than the record, the people you meet or the team itself!
