Wow your showing your baseball knowledge. You dont draft for need in an MLB draft, you draft the best available player. This is not the NFL or NBA players are years away from the majors when they’re drafted.

After Dirk Nowitzki with the Mavs, Dennis Seidenberg with the Bruins (and a few other German Hockey players in the NHL), Sebastian Vollmer with the Patriots, why not have a German in the MLB? Go Kai!

What do you mean who said it? The mlb network people who covered the draft and had 4-5 different experts on hand. What am I supposed to take a couple of Mets biased internet posters over the word of Hart, Gammons and Gillick?? Who told you bit wasn’t a reach? A blogger?

Now I’m not suggesting we don’t need an everday single roster spot eating catcher…
But you have to admit that we are getting nearly as much output from the position as Atlanta is getting out of their catcher. Only thing they are getting that we are not is more HRs and when you Play in CitiField half the time that is kind of expected no?

Everyone called Nimmo a reach I don’t know where you’re getting your info but it flies against everything that was said after his selection. The fact is they overlooked a top organizational need. There’s no need to rewrite history here. What’s done is done.

Nimmo wasn’t a reach. He had the highest ceiling of any prospect on the board except for Bell. And Swihart is also several years away. He may not even stay a catcher.

And the reason a lot of those guys you mentioned are in the outfield is because they can’t play anywhere else. Nimmo is a center fielder because he is a tremendous athlete that can actually play there.

That’s my point, why did we draft an outfielder who is 5 years away and was a reah, when we could have selected a top catcher like Blake Swihart who the Red Sox drafted after us. What we needed more than an outfielder is a catcher, obviously. The Red Sox seem to know a thing or two about drafting solid players.

They could still have taken Nimmo, and then drafted a catcher in round 2, 3, or 4. The first catcher they took was Carrillo at #14.

This must be the most pathetic group of cacthing prospects in the majors. The thing is I dont even see Thole as a decent catcher either. A few of our pitchers even openly complained about Thole’s game calling and defensively he’s near the bottom of the league. The Mets should have taken the best catcher available off the board on draft day. For some reason they took an outfielder when we have a dozen solid outfield prospects in the minors already. Duda will be patrolling RF for the next 7 years, then you have Cory Vaughn and Captain Kirk as future CF and LF. Plus I didnt mention Den Dekker or Flores.
