Brian specifically stated "after years of DRAFTING unathletic designated hitter types who can't play defense, it's good to see players like Nimmo and Marquez in the system."

DRAFTED, as in drafted in the, ugh, you know DRAFT. Fern, Escobar, Gomez were international free agents, Ochoa was drafted by Baltimore and acquired in a deadline deal with them for Bobby Bo. Milledge is the only guy you can come up with as even a slight comp for Marquez from an athletic standpoint acquired in the DRAFT (which Brian made clear was what he was talking about)

You should really be happy that we are trying to stockpile athletic outfielders because it has been a long, long time since we had a GM who did such a thing rather than complaining about the new GM finally addressing a longstanding position of need in this organization. (Gilkey, Johnson, Everett, Ochoa, Escobar, Endy Chavez Terrence Long and Jay Payton were all acquired by Joe Mcilvainne by trade, IFA or the draft in just a couple of years. All sound defensively with speed. Under Phillips we drafted Tyner and Millegde, signed Gomez and that was it in 6 years, (and traded away Everett and Nelson Cruz) Duquette did nothing for the OF and Minaya no where near enough (Javier Rodriguez, Kirk, Vaughn, Den Dekker, Ceccilini, through the draft and Fern, Lagares (converted from SS) and Puello That's it in 6 years.

That's why we've had to sign so many free agents like Cedeno, Floyd, Alou and Bay in the last 10 years. That's why we've gotten such poor overall production from the OF in general over the last decade from Hildago, Bell, Greene, Church and way too many other guys to name.

Rarely does the college football/pro baseball player work out but at least in this case we have an off the charts incredible athlete taken in the 18th round at a cost of just $325,000 and that can't be described as anything but a huge positive except for those who want to bash the administration for everything they do and respond to what other posters didn't comment on instead of what they did.
