there is a major hole in this argument. Last year, they were fantastic at home (47-34) and sucked on the road (relatively speaking). So does Citi have to get the credit for last years success too?

anyway, if the park suppresses offense, it should hurt the other team even more, since in theory they won’t be used to it!

Put it this way, if the Mets were simply playing .500 at home that would put their record at 68-56 instead of 60-64. That’s an 8 game improvement, but more tellingly would put them in 2nd place behind Atlanta for the Wild Card, 5 games out even after dealing K-Rod and Beltran AND without Young, Davis, Santana, Reyes, and Murphy. 5 games out of a playoff spot EVEN with a shoddy bullpen, cobbled together rotation and injury riddled starting lineup featuring the sub .400 Slg% of Jason Bay, Josh Thole, and Reuben Tejeda. Clearly, the injuries cannot be used as an excuse for why they’re irrelevant in the playoff chase. 8 games under .500 at home, but 4 over on the road! What???? So what is the excuse for the putrid play at home?

Its not the park, its the the soft-minded players…If other players come in and rake, why can’t ours? With he exception of Ike Davis and Beltran when he was here, the Mets do not have power hitters…I truly believe our record would be worse if we played in bandbox ballparks like Yankee stadium or Citizen bank park…solution: Bring in competent pitchers and hitters who don’t put up excuses…keep the park as is and go get them…

I really hate to over simplify but the root of our teams problem is ownership. It’s really frustrating being a Mets fan these days. Listening to Keith during the game last night and hearing him go on and on about the bad contracts….Perez..Castillo…Bay….even Pedro was a bad one in my eyes. It made me think about the team like this. The Tampons made a huge mess of this team financially and it’s not going to get better and if it does it is going to take years. So they want us as fans to continue to buy a sorid product and support them by going to games. Really ?? Why would anyone in their right mind do this ? I love the Mets and I still watch the games and hope something positive happens. Something positive would be the Tampons getting completely away from our team (this would include his son and brother-in law)and selling to an owner who realizes that this is a HUGE market and the fan base deserves more for thier money.

I believe Gary & Keith also said during last night’s game that they have the record for losing the opening game in their last 10 home-stands of the season at Shea stadium in 1979.

What’s worse is the Brewers have been one of the worse road teams in the NL this year. Although they are one of the best teams in the league that road record does seem like a fluke. The problem for the Mets seems to be consistency: in 2010 they were a +.500 team at home but -.500 on the road. This year the exact opposite. “IF” they were just a .500 team at home this year they might still be able to talk about the Wild Card. But, alas, the home stinking continues.

Fact: The Mets won more games from 2005-2008 than any other team in the National League.

Everybody loves to blame everthing from injuries to Jerry Manuel to the bullpen to whomever the GM is for why the Mets sucked from 2009 until now. How about we give Citi Field some blame too? The place has been a jinx since it opened, maybe because it was built on the ill-gotten gains of a ponzi scheme where thousands lost their savings save Madoff and the Wilpons who withdrew $700 million dollars.

It’s a shame, but that’s what our enlightened ownership did for us. In their greed for more revenue, they found the perfect solution to guarantee less revenue. Have a home field designed so that your team cannot compete effectively. We have a pitcher’s park, but not the pitching staff to take advantage of it. Our BP stinks and the starting rotation is at best mundane. Meanwhile, our hitters have developed mental blocks over the stupid wall and size of the OF. It’s a formula to lose and now attendance is dropping off because of it. Brilliant, we have enlightened ownership … NOT!
