MMO Fan Shot – Proud To Be A Mets Fan
It’s not easy being a Mets fan. Living in the New York area you’re constantly surrounded by Yankee fans who are more than willing to tell you about their 27 championships and how great their team is. The problem has been, especially in
the last 20 years, that it has been hard to argue that there is anything good about being a Mets fan.
There was the walk of ’99, the Subway Series of ’00, the K of ‘06, the collapse of ’07, the heartache of ’08, and the injuries of ’09. Not to mention the early ‘90s with the worst team money could buy. This made it hard to fight back against the fair-weather Yankee fans and bandwagon Phillies fans.
This year, however, has been different. Is this team going to win the division? No. Will they win the wild card? Probably not. Heck they might not even finish .500. But there just seems to be something different about this team. Something that makes me continue to watch each night, because you never know what could happen.
Every time this team has faced adversity they seem to come back even stronger than before. When Ike Davis went on the DL the Mets won 6 of the next 8 games. David Wright was next with a broken back. No problem they will just win 3 of the next 4. Lose the leagues batting leader, Jose Reyes, piece of cake they will just win 5 of the next 6.
When Terry Collins was hired he promised that this team would play the game right. They may not be the most fundamentally sound team. They may make a lot of mental errors. This could all be attributed to them having to play young, inexperienced players who are also playing out of position.
But one this is for sure, they will play the game hard, they play the game to win, and they have fun playing the game. The funny thing is even though the end result may not be different than the results of the last couple of years I have fun watching them play.
Lets Go Mets!

An article by

nice article, not to piS8 on your parade, but i swear to god i have seen about 25 articles about the same lovefest for collins and this year mets.. guess the fans were more in love and excited with this team than they should’ve, OBVIOUSLY the front office of genious didn’t think this team could compete, 2014 baby!!
They couldn’t and weren’t competing – that is why they are doing everything they can to change that for the future – it’s not that hard to understand, maybe they can hold a remedial “Understanding the game” for you and some of your friends.
Very nice article
is a shame, so you’re saying they are making change for the future?? how so? acquiring a single A pitcher with “high ceiling” and 2 PTBN later?? what??
all he does is save the wilpons money for the upcoming season.. no beltran and no krod, possible, and by the day very likeli reyes will be gone, maybe unload more contracts along the way, and get cheap players who are crap but got a high OBP.. ugh..leasrn baseball man before you talk, this lovefest with sandy alderson is out of control
Dude – despite you saying this every day,the whole lovefest garbage because you don’t agree or understand, those are the right moves to be made.
Some light reading for you http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/nemesis_offers_up_amazin_advice_Kv5xXM9MSsjyJEE32R0rKP
“Sandy Alderson & Co. might want to listen to Larry Jones and the wisdom of stockpiling minor league talent, something the Mets finally seem committed to do, if they can find it. That is something the Braves have done so much better than the Mets.”
Can you please cite examples of moves Atlanta made that could be considered STOCKPILING Minor League Talent?
Collins is a fighter! His team reflects that!
Great blog post!
I have a confession to make, I stopped watching games last year after the all star break, it just got too hard to watch. This year our record is not much better but I’ve missed onkly one game all year! I love watching this team win or lose!
