MetsMerized Player Of The Week! (Week 17)
This week was without a doubt filled with emotion and high sentiment for anyone who really cares about the Mets. Carlos Beltran wore his uniform with pride and played with real talent out there, and there’s not much else to be said now that hasn’t already been said about the man. It’s time to move on (with the report put out there from Cerrone that Boras wants a 5/70 deal) and look ahead to the future. We’ve got two PTBNL coming in for K-Rod and a new prospect in Wheeler – and we’ve still got a strong core if we re-sign Reyes. If…
My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Daniel Murphy!
Daniel Murphy and David Wright both had sizzling hot weeks, but minor factors came down to decide it in Murphy’s favor. Murphy played a perfect week of defense and stole a base (while David did neither.). Daniel Murphy has become a monster at the plate – our own hitting machine. He’s a super utility hitter that won’t really provide gold glove defense anywhere, but he can handle himself and he’s become a really respectable major league hitter. I still remember when I saw him hit his first HR – an opposite field HR back in Shea.
On the week, Daniel the Destroyer posted a .467/.600/1.115 (avg/slg/ops) line. He had 14 hits on the week in 30 ABs. 14 hits in a week! That’s incredible. 4 of those were two baggers. He drove in 6 runs, walked twice versus only one strikeout, and even stole a base. He scored seven times and scorched a ton of balls over the week, so congrats to Daniel Murphy!
Past Award Winners
One-Hit Wonders: Chris Young, Carlos Beltran, Ike Davis/Pedro Beato, Dillon Gee.
Been There, Done That Twice: David Wright*
Third Time’s The Charm: Jose Reyes
Who’s Hot
David Wright: .467/.567/1.035 (14 – 30 ; HR), 6 RBI, 6 R, BB/2 K.
Of Note
Closing in on 300 saves for Izzy.
Scott Hairston had a great game yesterday – 2 HR day off the bench.
Dickey, Pelfrey, and Gee all had a hit last week.
Lucas Duda is looking a bit more comfortable up at the plate. Wright is sizzling hot with his return to his old batting stance.
Jason Bay had a little wake-up call last week and drilled 4 2B with 6 RBI.
Trade deadline done and over with… Every NL East team made a trade in buyer fashion except the Mets.
Finally, Alex68 called Reyes last week for POTW and missed this one.

YES!!!! I was hoping that you picked Daniel Murphy he has been so good for us this season and I never see anything posted about him. Well there was actually one great article on here that I read last week, but WE WANT MORE!
satish, i probably jinxed him lol.. well, my prediction for this week will be mike pelfrey, as he gets 2 starts this week.
let’s go mets!!!!!
Every NL East team made a trade in buyer fashion except the Mets”
the only team with broke owners, and small market mentality GM is the mets, what else did you expect satish???
Just because you are used to a GM overspending on garbage, and now actually have a GM that has a clue and refuses to waste money, that does not make them a small market team, no matter how many times you say it.
ok getaclue..
The owners are not broke dude…You need to catch up to current events.
Metsie: Sssh. It’s easier to just say things then worry about whether it’s true. If they are broke, they would have traded everybody and cut the payroll down to pennies. They are the brokest millionaires in NY apparently.
LOL OK I hope I didn’t spill the beans! ROFLMAO!
alex & satish:
“Every NL East team made a trade in buyer fashion except the Mets”
Which trade did Florida make?
Washington: Trading for .212 hitting Johnny Gomes made them buyers? Really?
Sent RHP Jason Marquis for INF Zachary Walters… buyers? Trading Hairston Jr away, buyers?
I think what you both mean is that “The 2 teams going for it in 2011 were buyers”
To my knowledge,
Gomes has long been looked at a source of cheap right handed power. He’s not some young prospect so he was acquired with the idea of improving the lineup. I could’ve sworn you didn’t like using BA as a good indicator.
The Marlins added Mike Cameron for a ptbnl, I believe.
Nope just an assumption by many. I just don’t LOVE batting average, but I look at it.
So I guess your definition of “buyer” is different than most. When you are a buyer, you’re buying valuable assets. Grabing Mike Cameron who was gonna be cut isn’t really “buying”.
Which stat do you want me to use to tell you Gomes is borderline garbage? His under .400 SLG? .338 OBP? Adding him is like adding a AAA call up. Not impressed.
I didn’t directly call the teams buyers. I just said that they made moves in buyer fashion. And picking up those guys is a move in buyer fashion.
Whether those moves were good or bad, or better than the moves the Mets made, are a different topic. Get me?
