In the past when I have showed you the proof you either ignored or denied the evidence so why bother?

I don't need to prove it...
You prove it everytime you forget you were called out on saying such things and then repeat them!

YOU will prove what I said for me! You ALWAYS DO!

Might not be today or tomorrow but sometime in the next week or two you will go on a tout about how great that Moneyball system is and what a great success Oakland was!

In fact you might even do it on your reply to this in a feeble attempt to change the subject as you always do as well!

I did? When? Where?

Are there things I liked about what the A's did? Yes.

I liked how they went to advanced stats to get a deeper understanding.

I liked how they stopped doing things simply because "that's how we always did them".

I liked how they reevaluated player acquisition.

I like how they question the role of the various people in the organization.

did everything work out perfectly? No, the reliance on drafting college players with low ceiling almost exclusively was a misstep.

Also, the situation in Oakland does not translate perfectly to here. Oakland's owners out right refused to spend money on their team. Alderson and Beane had no choice. Yet, somehow, the A's made the playoffs 4 straight years and 5 of Beane's first 8 years as GM.

You can call the Wilpons many things (and we all have) but cheap ain't one of them. So, Alderson will have more to work with. Even if payroll gets cut 15%, that is still around $120 million.

He is cleaning up a a mess now. But, he was not brought here top turn this club into the Royals. The Mets are already the Royals with a big price tag.

Alderson is here to make the Mets a sustainable winner and I like that he will use any means he can to do so.

Yeah but there is a difference...

Donal actually admits he wants us to use it! Just ask him!

I guess you do too!

Because you don't deny that it may be used you only suggest that people who suggest we are going to use it haven't read it which you really are in no position to comment on unless you can provide PROOF that we have not read it and do not get just how BIG OF A FAILURE it was in Oakland!

So much in fact that they don't use it anymore!

Do I think he would have cut them this year? Yes!

Much different situation. Last year if he managed to trade either one he would not have had to pay this year's salary (maybe just a portion). Sandy didn't cut them right out of the gate either. He too held onto them throughout ST trying to see if they could be traded. Same reasons Omar held onto them last year when you look at it. Sandy took a lot of heat for it but he made the correct decision there.

Perez wasn't cut until he was going to cost the team more than 12 Mil.
Last year Perez' options cost:
24M (Cut), <24M (Trade) 24Mil plus Roster (Keep)

This year the costs of Perez were more defined and easier to swallow. He could cost us
12 MIl (Cut), 12M plus roster spot (keep) or less than 12M (Trade).

Sandy did what Omar did, tried for Option3 and when he couldn't pull it off took option 1 which cost less.

Omar would have too this year.

Castillo ASKED for his release. Same situation really as far as cost as Perez. Trade (<8M) Cut (8M) Keep (8M plus Roster spot)

Both would have been obligated to pay him 12 Mil (8 Mil for castillo) in the worst case, So both tried to hold on and reduce that number by hoping a trade could be made.
The trade never happed but if Castillo had played just a bit better not only would have likely WON the 2B job in ST but he might have been traded to someone like the Phillies who snapped him up about a day after we released him.

So Yes I think Omar would have cut the chord this year and I do think Sandy did the right thing by waiting until the price would become MORE than it had to be.

I really like Ike, Duda, and Turner. We've had our share bad free agent signings the past 20 years. I say give the in house guys a shot!

I am praising Terry Collins for the surprise year the Mets are having. I thought they would finish dead last going into this season. I am glad I was wrong. If Jerry Manuel or Art Howe or Willie Randolph was managing this team, they would have packed it in by the end of June. I'm with you on Alderson. Let's give him at least 3 years until we could condemn his moves as GM. Remember he did cut Castillo and Perez loose this season. You think Omar would have pulled the plug on them?

I'm Sorry but the Mets are not trading Lucas Duda, Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada or any other young players you mentioned.

The top three bats will be Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, and Jose Reyes. They will try to retain Reyes, otherwise, they aren't getting Fielder or Pujols. They are happy with Ike and will likely stay with him. Not saying in any fashion that Ike is better than the other aforementioned 1st baseman, but they aren't going to get rid of him for the hope of signing one of those two sluggers.

Jeez, OmarFan. I mean we've been through this before a million times. We get it. A few people on this website and a few others hate David Wright. Fair enough, you can't love everyone. But subjective opinion, stated as fact, and then backed up with nothing is useless.

Just for the record though, once again, here is what Wright did during the only four months in which he was in a pennant race.

     August '07 .394, 8 2B, 6 HR, 21 RBI, 28 RS
     Sept '07 .352, 9 2B, 6 HR, 20 RBI, 22 RS
     August '08 .310, 9 2B, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 21 RS
     Sept. '08 .337, 5 2B, 6 HR, 21 RBI, 21 RS

Extropolated over a full season the only four months of Wright's career during a pennant race would have resulted in a year like this one.

                .348, 46 2B, 37 HR, 123 RBI, 138 RS

Basically MVP #'s. Perhaps even triple crown #'s in the post steroid era.

I think what is called for in this discussion is a little context OmarFan. Perhaps you could add a little context by doing a similar analysis of who was clutch during those pressure packed days of Aug and Sept 2007 and 2008.

I think what you'll find is that Wright was certainly no worse than Delgado, Beltran, Reyes and Alou ('07) and surprisingly enough might even have been a little better under exactly the same circumstances as some of his more "clutch" teammates.

I wonder if you would enlighten and inform us of your findings OmarFan.

     lol.

I think what is called for in this discussion is a little context OmarFan. Perhaps you could add a little context by doing a similar analysis of who was clutch during those pressure packed days of Aug and Sept 2007 and 2008.

I think what you’ll find is that Wright was certainly no worse than Delgado, Beltran, Reyes and Alou (’07) and surprisingly enough might even have been a little better under exactly the same circumstances as some of his more “clutch” teammates.

I wonder if you would enlighten and inform us of your findings OmarFan.

     lol.

Well Sandy didn't give up as quickly as Donal would have wanted us to...

Sandy waitied until the last minute...It can be debated if it was worth it but it would all be speculation until Wheeler shows a pass or fail...

Donal and many others would have had us sell off far earlier than we did! they felt EXACTLY the way Pelfrey did when the season started and they wanted us to become Oakland and the Pirates. Something about a book!

While we still had a chance to compete you have to admit that at the time Beltran got sent the chances were no better than 50/50.

Now they are about 25/75 not in our favor.

If Beltran is here we don't bring up Evans to backup Murphy at 1st base we would have Duda for that! Tejada is the likely call up then and if he is there Murphy doesn't play 2B when Reyes goes down and doesn't get hurt....

Some will call it IF...I call it Cause and Affect!
Beltran sent the roster into a position that forced Murphy to play the one position that has managed to kill off every season he has ever had!
2B. If Beltran is still here he never winds up playing there!

Don't be like the others here and be shortsighted on the GM. Sandy hasn't made blunders and the few payroll dumps he made (other than Beltran and the book isn't closed on that yet till Wheeler gets here) were worth doing.

And those who suggest that Sandy is all that will have some hard thinking to do after Midnight tonite if Nimmo doesn't get paid his overslot request and Sandy does what they complained about Omar not doing...

I'm giving Sandy three years to show me what he has. Just as I gae Omar three years to show me what he had and those first three years were pretty good!

Don't be like those who refuse to be fair because the GM doesn't subscribe to the same Oakland Bible they worship.
Give the guy a chance and trust me you will have plenty of time to trash Sandy if he does what they think he is going to do!

Truth is they are SO WRONG on what they think Sandy is going to do. The only time he ever did it was when he had the Owners bugetary gun pointed at his head to FORCE him to do it!

Yes he let Beltran go and maybe thats a bad thing maybe it's a good thing if Wheeler is Cy Young quality...

It's too soon to trash Omar and he's already gone! WAY too soon to paint Alderson especially when the color being used to paint him is 15 year old Oakland Green!

Don't be as rash and immovable as these guys...Give him a chance before you put the noose around his neck!
You might be pleasantly surprised.

We were tied for 4th in the entire NL at the time 5 games or so over .500 in the middle of May up perhaps a half a game over Philly and two over the Braves and with that rotation? That we had in 2009? I don't know if that lead would have held up through another 4 1/2 months.

Not to say that losing Delgado wasn't crushing, and Reyes and Beltran too, cause it was. Our 3 best hitters and our best defenders and base runners on a team that had little in the way of those attributes to begin with.

We really didn't have the horses to compete but when the horses we did have started dropping.......forget about it.

Look at it this way. Parnell went from being a rookie, 7th inning guy to an eighth inning set up guy to a starting pitcher. If that doesn't say it all I don't know what would.
