Mets are 22.5 GB…Fans aren’t flocking to road games?!?! No way. The Phillies vs The Mets is not a rivalry…for it to be a rivalry, the 2 teams have to be competitive with each other…no one flocks to see their team bend over and get raped by a team who continuously out classes them.

why would we want to pay stupid ballpark fees to watch them get pounded by the phils.no thanks, at least when i watch on tv i can change the channel.

Agree. I live in So. Jersey, and the number of Phillies fans has increased exponentially in the past 3 years.

Same thing is happening with the Eagles now.

It’s sickening.

Well it should be pointed out that it’s more than just the respective competitivness of the teams that is the cause but it is related…

You see there have to be tickets available for Met fans to buy to go see them at CBP.
Not many tickets available at this point.

Phillies are going to see their team in droves…
Met fans aren’t even going to see the mets at Citi so when the Phillies play here there are plenty of good seats available for them to buy!

I’d disagree with the 50-50 – it was EASILY 65/35 Mets fans over Phils in 2007. In 2008, it was 50/50. I didn’t set foot in that place in 2009, and in 2010, I was at a Mets fan party (who lives right outside of Philly) in a suite area, and we were basically the only Mets fans there. The problem isn’t so much that Mets fans aren’t traveling (we do travel well, just not to parks where we are continually harassed); it’s more to do with the fact that NO ONE was a Phillies fan prior to 2007, now all of a sudden, everyone is going. People supporting a winner is one thing – frontrunning is another. I actually like CBP – it’s just a dangerous atmosphere for anyone wearing another team’s jersey. I feel safer in the Bronx wearing my Mets gear!

Why would you as a Met fan go to a Phillies game and be embarrassed when your team sucks so bad. I used to go a lot to Braves’ games when the Mets came a calling and it was a downright “beat down” for me and my son and the fellow Met fans in the stands to see the Mets stomped like a cockroach. Of course these were the days when Bernitez was our closer and you talk about ugly,come to think of it the other bums were just as bad. I am still having nightmares!

you point out a key item. The Phils are hot ticket, and all the games sell out early in the season. And they don’t seem to have lots of $1 tickets on stub hub! So it is no where near as easy to get a set of reasonably priced tickets when you feel like going.

That, and these days, phils fans make Yankee fans look like reasonable, rational people (they are taking obnoxiousness to a new level).

so.. i mean, i am not sure what to make of this article, is simple mathematics, you win, fans follow you everywhere, does anybody even remember seen a philly fan in NY in 2006?? i know i don’t and i went like 10 tmes to shea stadium that year, plus, why would you wanna waste your hard earned money watching crap on the field when you can do the same from your living room?
i’ve gone 3 times already this year, and quite frankly, being at the stadium with good seat and taking your family is VERY expensive.. VERY..
