The scary thing is that the Braves have not only three young starting pitchers in their rotation in Jurjens, Hanson and Beachy but they also have four more ready or almost ready in Teheran, Minor, Delgado and Vizcaino.

That combined with two young 8th and 9th inning guys in Venters and Kimbrell doesn't bode well for us over the next 6-10 years.

They also have Chippers replacement already in place in Eddie Salcedo, Alex Gonzalez replacement in place in Tyler Pastornicky and very young starters at 1B and RF in Freeman and Heyward as well as in their prime players like Prado, Bourne and McCann at LF, CF catcher.

No reliance at all on aging past their prime expensive FA's here.

Thank goodness they signed Glavine or they could have wound up with Ike and thank goodness they signed Wagner or they could have had yet another young piece to work through their system.

Lou,
In watching and then later reflecting on last night's miserable affair, I decided there are just so many men I wouldn't miss if they stop appearing in Mets uniforms some time soon. Here's my list:

1. WIllie Harris
2. Scott Hairston
3. jason Pridie
4. Jason Bay
5. Justin Turner
6. Josh Thole
7. Igarashi
8. Ronny Paulino
9. Angel Pagan
10. D.J. Carrasco
11. Pedro Beato
12. Jason Isringhausen
13. Tim Byrdak
14. Manny Acosta
15. Mike Pelfrey
16. Chris Capuano
17. Nickeas

So, I may have left out a scrub or two, but in my mind it means building the team around Reyes, Wright, Davis, Niese, Gee, Dickey and Parnell

You know that in two or three years, we will look back on this roster and it is going to seem about as foreign as the one from 2004. Check that one out for laughs when you have a chance.

Until a week ago, I actually thought our Mets had a crack at a winning season. Sigh.

I would say that Tim Hudson could be an "ACE" on a number of staffs and if it wasn't for Juergens he would be the ace of the Braves, so to hit Hudson last night was a real challenge. The two guys coming up next for the Braves are potential aces too-woe is us!

Why oh why were they pitching to Uggla in the 8th when he broke it open. The Braves' announcers were reaaly perplexed over that decision. Did Terry Collins get a phone call from Jerry Manuel to help him with that decision-what a bonehead play with first open. Even I knew better-yeah we are going nowhere and I would be surprised by the time the last game is played we won't be in last place. Doesn't look good=not good at all!

The Bravos are currently without their big bats in the line-up either due to slumps or injuries, and they still get the job done. That team is very good. Their pitching is scary good. All during the game last night I kept thinking, even if we start to get to Hudson at some point, they are just going to go to that unbelievable bullpen of theirs. And now we have to contend with Hanson and Jurgens. The Braves are so much better than the Mets, that you can't even compare the two. And when you realize the Phillies are that much better than the Braves, it shows you just how far the Mets still need to go. Light years.

I guess as Reyes goes so goes the Mets cause he was carrying them last month and 1/2 but the lack of depth in lineup has caught up to Mets; Pagan has not hit, neither has Thole plus Bay is back to his normal lack production so if Reyes doesn't get on and helps to produce runs then Mets look lifeless.

But how great were tonight's uniforms? Loved the blue with orange trim. That's the color scheme our 3rd jerseys *should* be.
