You’re assuming a save is product of skill. the fact is, it is more a product of opportunity. That’s why the saves leaders list has such a high turnover each year. That’s why the over all success rate in save situations has actually decreased since the one inning closer became the standard.

Like I said, at best, a luxury for a legit WS contender and at worst, a detriment to the team.

On the field he is great of that there is little doubt, but what about these frequent trips to the DL? Ho can we sustain a winning ball club when at any given time we can lose him for three weeks at a time to the DL? He will no have missed six weeks of the season because of this hamstring problem. Add in the fact that speedsters get slower as the get older. In 3 years when he becomes just a 15 stolen base guy who hits 8 homeruns with 20 doubles and 1 triple and 42 RBI, do we really want to be paying him $20 million a year for that? Especially when his body is already showing signs of breaking down? Especially when he will no longer have a new contract to motivate him like it has in this career walk year? Remember the hatefest for Luis Castillo? Jose Reyes is not that much better than Castillo was in his prime. Castillo used to be a dynamic leadoff hitter and terror on the basepaths too. Pleanty of all star games, 3 gold gloves and heck he batted .334 on season too. He got killed for making $6 million a year, imagine Reyes making $20 mil a year.

220 7 32 batting 3rd (isn’t he supposed to be the “best hitter on the mets)

ENOUGH SAID… this man is just not the leader, superstar, star, clutch hitter, demigo you ALL thought he is.. he is a good complimentary player, not someone you build YOUR TEAM around..
