Ike's problem is systematic of why we have the HEALTH CARE crisis we claim to have in this country!

We wonder why the cost of healthcare has gone so high is it because it's just so expensive to treat people?

OR is it because they do NOT treat people merely tell them to rest and come back in two weeks for MORE TESTING which costs a ton because it requires a 100 Million dollar piece of a equipment and technicians to operate that cutting edge piece of equipment and gets a very high salary because there are too few of them to hire?

Hell they won't even give you good pain killers until you ask them to. Break a leg they give you Tylenol3 and tell you to ice and keep the leg elevated! 6 Weeks you will be all better and by the way that will be $3000 please for walking into the emergency room and another $2000 for the Xray, Oh and don't forget the $800 for me taking the time to look at the XRay as well....

One player had a broken bat - He was told to rest!
Another had a serious (apparently) ankle injury - He is still being told to rest 8 weeks later!)
Chris young had the same injury Sanatana has, He rested for an entire season and then three weeks into the CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH re-injured it!

Can someone tell me WHEN the medical sciences decided that NOT TREATING, MERELY TESTING PROGRESS was the best medical course of action?
And if thats the new way of HEALING then why does it cost so much?

Truth is there is very little HEALING going on just a boatload of TESTING!
Which is why we have the medical crisis!

You know if they just healed people instead of testing people's own ability to heal the price of health care would be affordable and everyone would be able to have it since they wouldn't have to wait in line for all the people who are merely being tested instead of healed!

Listen, the Hospital for Special Surgery is one of the best facilites on earth. The football Giants use them, and they have real, serious injuries. It is either the training staff or the way the front office chooses to interpret info. Bone bruises can be tricky though.remember that beltran's bone bruise in his knee did not go away for a year, and he had surgery (on his own) in the off season. I feel it could be the training staff. How you treat an injury after it is diagnosed has a lot to do with recovery. The people who manage the recovery day to day are the training staff. Ike feels that the boot had something to do with it. Did the doctors put the boot on his foot, or did Ray Ramirez and company? Is Ike wrong in his assumption? We are not medical men. But the fact that the mets have so many problems is suspicious. I used to think that the FO let players decide on their playability and that led to problems. That is not the case with Ike.

It looked like he got spiked by Wright and that caused him to roll over on it. but really 4 months? Questions about 2012?

I don't how just about every single injury goes from being day to day to affecting more than just one year.

Something is wrong with the diagnosis, Treatment, the players healing ability, rehab, the water, something.

the 3-4 weeks isn't to see if he comes back this season. That ship has long sailed. Rather, it is to judge progress so they can make the call as to whether rest/rehab/therapy over the winter will be good enough. In 4 weeks, if it isn't healing noticably, they will make the call on surgery.

The wait is probably good news, since it means they must have seen progress since the last time they looked. If it wasn't improving, most likely the call would have been to do the procedure now for more healing time.

Easy on the caps lock holmes. :)

It was more a general comment on how injuries with the Mets always seem to be more severe, last longer and linger more than with other teams. And it's happened for years now. At some point, you have to look at the overall process to understand why things are as they are. I know injuries happen to all teams, but it seems awfully close to a trend if I've ever seen one. Just sayin...

What Brian said is true lifelong, I've heard and read several quotes from Alderson and that's exactly what he said. That why they are avoiding it at all costs. But I think they should go with the surgery if there is a chance it CAN help, otherwise we're just spinning our wheels and Ike Davis will not be on the field come Opening Day.

Subject should be "Mets Get Second Opinion On Ike Davis, Will Continue To Rest For 4-5 Months"

I don't even understand why anybody in the Mets organization is pretending this guy is coming back in 2011. All they keep doing is looking for a way to mess this up. Just let him shut it down and get healthy.

It's clearly an injury that is much worse than they ever thought...

NJ, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON BETWEEN PUJOLS' INJURY & DAVES' CASE U WERE UNAWARE PUJOLS ISN'T REALLY HEALED; BUT STRAPPED UP WITH ARTIFICIAL REINFOCREMENTS BTW, THE UNCERTAINTY SURROUNDING PHAT ALBERT'S ULTIMATE RECOVERY FAVORS STL's ATTEMPTS TO RESIGN THE SUPERSTRAR. THE MEDICAL STAFF WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE INJURY CREATION, PELFREY WAS, SO IF U CHOOSE TO BLAME & FIRE ANYONE, HE'S YOUR PRIMARY TARGET, IMO.

I LIVE IN MATTHEWS, NC, A SUBURB OF CHARLOTTE & CAN ATTEST THAT THE MOST RENOWNED ORTHOPEDIC PRACTICE IN THE CAROLINAS IS "ORTHO-CAROLINA" http://www.orthocarolina.com/
AND THE TWO MOST PROMINENT FOOT & ANKLE SURGEONS ARE DRS. ROBERT ANDERSON & W.HODGENS DAVIS. BOTH HAVE WORKED IN THAT CAPACITY EXTENSIVELY WITH THE LOCAL NBA & NFL FRANCHISES ie BOBCATS & PANTHERS. MY WIFE IS A CURRENT DR DAVIS PATIENT & I'M AWARE THAT HIS FORMER MED SCHOOL ROOMMATE IS ONE OF THE LEAD HSS SURGEONS WORKING WITH NYM PLAYERS.
AS I FULLY ANTICIPATE BEING SHUTOUT OF ANY "INSIDER" INFO DUE TO CONFIDENTIALITY & HIPPAA CONSIDERATIONS AS DR. DAVIS IS AWARE OF MY NYM FAN CONNECTION FROM PREVIOUS NONDESRIPT CONVERSATIONS WHICH LEFT ME WITH A DISTINCT IMPRESSION THERE WAS A PREVIOUS DISCONNECT BETWEEN HSS ADVICE & NYM OWNERSHIP & TRAINING STAFF.

FROM MY PERSONAL VANTAGE, I'M SOMEWHAT AMUSED BY THE TWITTERINGS OF THE CHICKEN LITTLES RUNNING ABOUT CONCERNED OVER IKE'S CAREER IMPACTION AS 1B HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN THE BEST SUITED POSITION FOR WALKING WOUNDED TYPES LIKE MANTLE & BENCH. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IKE'S LONGEVITY WILL BE SEVERELY HAMPERED OR IMPAIRED IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER; BUT THERE IS NO MD AFTER MY SIGNATURE.

Is that really true Brian? I thought the bone bruise will heal its;ef over time, it's just a matter or how long it takes. You mean to tell me that Ike Davis's career could be over because he "bumped into" another person? Good Lord! That's hard to handle!
