Look I applaud him for his last start but unless he pitches like that the rest of the season (and if I'm in charge EVEN if he does),

I would insist on an incentive based contract that starts at 1.5 Mil with accelerators based on number of innings pitched and ERA.

The Injury risk is still great, maybe even GREATER than it was when we first signed him.
And his habit of hitting the 6th inning wall is not conducive to signing him long term.

I don't know what he might get offerred in the offseason by other teams as he has managed to last an entire season so far and he is a lefty which is highly sought after in this league.

But we need some protection against the 6 innings and done or potential for breakdown that still exists with Cap.
So if we DO sign him (and he does merit consideration) it had better be to an incentive based contract where he needs to pitch into the 7th and not spend a lot of time on the DL before he gets paid the better bucks.

I say start him at 1.5 - 2M per and give him the other 2 Mil based on IPs and other performance markers.

I would like to see Capuano back next year but regardless of if he is or not I would also bring in Marquis. As he could probably be bought for cheap and seeing as though he could potentialy be a high reward. Santana, Neise, Dickey, Marquis, Capuano. Santana the obvious ace neise the stunning south paw that develops into our no. 2 starter and the 3 vets at the back end with the knuckle baller, the crafty lefty and Marquis has had some success and experience ( play off experience at that ).

After his last start there were 2 posts on this site about how terrible Capuano has been all season...now after a great start, he has been "a reward for the Mets." Can't wait for his next start so we can read about how he has been awful again. Make up your minds...you are sounding like Philly sports bloggers! "We love McNabb...We hate McNabb." "Boo Pat Burrell..." After a Burrell HR..."Yay Pat Burrell!"

depends really on what other offers he gets, but I suspect the Mets would be happy to have him back for another year.

Also, a small correction. Cap was coming off elbow issues. Young had the shoulder problems.

I'm not certain this team wants to offer a multi-year contract to Cap, which is exactly what he'll want. He did his time, proving his health, and I don't see him not signing for less than 2 years.

Would he be worth it to re-sign? Surely, at the right price. Is 2 years at 8 Mil too rich for this team? It shouldn't be, but I would certainly not go higher or longer on a deal of that size for him. He's a back of the rotation kind of guy with the flexibility to pitch out of the pen if needed, plus he's a lefty, so there's certain value he brings to the table but anything more than that would be silly, with the other areas of concern (AKA anywhere from 5 to 7 spots needing to be filled in the BP...)

Just sucks having to shell out that kind of money for a 5th starter.
