Loved this post. I was a huge “Hendu Can Do” fan! I heard or remember seeing him as a hitting coach recently but I dont recall the team. Anybody?

Funny i was at that Hendu game LOL it was like the World Series(im 44 years young), and i was there last night but i had a few drinks i didnt realize he had 13k’s until next morn. Hendu game i still remember some older guy next to me that was a NY Giant fan and remained loyal to them after the move to SF, he was in disbeleif/complete disappointment, but i remember the game was euporic for some reason…

Hendu in ’80–when the Mets were in the midst of seven horrible years of losing at least 94 each of those years–’77 through ’83.

At least we aren’t that horrible.

Still, watching last night’s gem–easily the best pitched game of 2011–I had to wonder why we couldn’t have had just 10 or 12 more games like this from April through August.

Oh, well. It did feel good to make the Bravos look like they suck

I have been a bit hard of Cap lately, even suggesting he should not be resigned,

Last night hasn’t completely changed my mind in that but if he does happen to pitch more like that the rest of the way than he has been pitching he might actually change my mind.

Lets see how he bounces back from the complete game and if last night was a turning point in his return to his old form or just an inspired one time personal performance.

But you have to give him a ton of credit for last night’s performance.
Sometimes a performance like that shows a pitcher something he never realized before and he can bottle it up and become a great pitcher using it.

That Hendu homer was one of my favorite Mets memories of that era. I call it the Lee Mazzilli era. I dont know that last night measured up to it, but it was damn close. In any event thanks for bringing it up. Those were good times.

Thanks for bringing me down memory lane. My wife and I were at that game in 1980. I read her your article without Steve Hendersons name until the end and she also got pumped. My wife even remembered where we were seated and how approx 10,000 fans went nuts. We were beeping our horns and yelling out “Hendu Can Do”.
