I’m going on record to say I’d prefer Kimbrel due to his K ability and I think he’s the most dominating closer of 2011. But Brian Wilson is the #1 NL Closer in 2011 if the season ended today.

Kimbrel has allowed 1 more batter to reach base than innings pitched. Marmol walked more hitters than he gave up hits, proving he dominated nothing. And he put on over 90 hitters in 77 innings of work.

If I had to guess right now, Wilson would win the Reliever award. Hanrahan/Kimbrel/Axford are right there though and if you ask me who I want closing for my team? I want a guy who doesn’t put runners on base and who strikes them out.

Marmol had a very good year last year, he just walked way too many batters. That’s not a problem for Kimbrel. If Kimbrel throws 77 innings, his pace is 29 walks to Marmol’s 52.

I’m not even sure what your point of view is? Are you trying to discredit Kimbrel as being one of the best closers in the sport right now? Why? Because he’s a Brave?

Then take into account their Earned Runs? Kimbrel is DOMINATING in 2011. 84K in 53 innings is obscene and he’s allowed ONE baserunner over his innings pitched.

That’s a 14.26 K/9. That is ridiculous.

When a pitcher relies on his own stuff over his defense to make plays, he’s dominating the game. Hanrahan is a fine closer but he puts the ball in play. You may like that but there is a greater risk to a team’s chances when the ball is put into play than when it’s blown by the batter.

If your team is winning 1-0 and you have a good team’s 3-4-5 hitters up. Do you want the guy who puts the ball in play to pitch or the guy who can strike out the side?

Can he falter down the stretch? Of course. But as of this moment, today… if you ask me which closer other than Mariano I want up there to get 3 outs, its Kimbrel.

Why does it bother you so much to admit other players around the league are good?

54 Games, 53 innings, 84 strikeouts, 33 hits, 21 walks and 31 saves.

I will take that DOMINATING performance over any closer in 2011 other than Mariano and Mariano gets it solely on reputation. 84 strikeouts in 53 innings? Do you realize of any other closer in MLB the next highest K total is 63?

So yes, Kimbrel is 2011′s best closer. Saying that doesn’t mean I am a Braves fan, it means I pay attention

There are 3 “elite” closers in baseball. Mariano, Wilson and Bell. Kimbrel is the best closer in the 2011 season and if he pans out, that’s trouble for the future.

Everybody else, throw them in a bag and pull one out and you’ll get almost the same caliber of closer.

“sandy’s apologist went on about how krod had a high whip, well, check everybody’s since he left?” — So KRod going to Milwaukee plays a role in how many walks or hits a reliever gives up? OR could it be its August and relievers get tired?

What would you trade Wright for? If you’re another team’s GM and you saw a guy who just came off a broken back and would only be a rental (remember, that option only works for the Mets, it’s gone if he gets traded) and has had rising strike outs the last 2 years, what would you give for him?
