"How much of that 30 Mil was overslot? "

The slot guidelines say the Pirates total for the first 10 rounds should have been a little over $6 million. Cole got an $8 million deal. Bell got $5 million. Their 1st 10 picks signed for a little over $16 million.

Also, keep in mind, last year, they spent <$12 million.

How much of that 30 Mil was overslot? Not making any point on what you said there just wondering , How much of that was actual overslotting and how much was because they picked so High even paying based on Slot would be expensive. I only ask cause you gave a total.

Here is my one big issue with going overslot....(and it doesn't matter what slot either)

A guy asks for Overslot money in essence he is saying:

I was a #10 pick but I think I should have been picked 2nd, so pay me what I would get as if I WERE picked #2!

Is a greedy guy who is all about the money, Thinks he's better than the draft would suggest so probably won't get better till he opens his mind to the ooaches,... really the guy you want to sign?

Now within reason and by individual situation I don't mind paying more. But I would make all that money incentive based...Make it to AA get this much, Make it to AAA you get this much, Make it the Major leages as a Starter Here is a big fat signing bonus!

They don't sign? For what an extra 500K-Mil? Let then work at McDonalds for a year and see what they think they will/can play for then!

Funny thing about slotting.....one of the main guys who helped establish the current system is Frank Coonely who is the Pirates team president. And in the last 3 years the Bucs have spent over $30 million on the amateur draft! Yeah, so much for slotting! Looks good on paper when you work for the commissioner, but when you're rebuilding a franchise slotting doesn't seem so fashionable.

I commend the Pirates for being aggressive in the draft the last 3 years in trying to restock and build a better future. Hopefully that is what the Mets new F/O will be able to do, not neccessarily spending obscene amounts in the draft, but being aggressive and going for the best talent.

The GCL season ends a week from this Saturday on Aug 27. If he doesn't get into a game till the end of next week, he will only have two or three games left to play in the season. I guess they plan on looking at him in Instructs, which begins in Fla in mid September. Here's some scouting video on Nimmo in case you haven't seen him yet. http://baseballfactory.com/video/1269/UA-All-America-Game-2010-Brandon-Nimmo-11

It's probably too late for him at Kingsport and Brooklyn, since those seasons are done in like 2 weeks. And he's way too raw for Savannah, never mind the Florida State League.

He'll probably do a few weeks of complex league ball and then head to Arizona or DR for the fall.

Considering the kid is the very 1st draft pick of this new Front Office I can understand somewhat the attention he is getting. Add to that the kid being used somewhat like a chess piece among some fans to argue their points both pro & con on a number of varying topics and I don't doubt this kid's name will be in the spotlight for quite some time going forward.

Hopefully in the end the kid can one day simply help the Mets win. In the end really that is all that matters.
