Brandon Nimmo Has Best Game of Professional Career

  Good to see Nimmo off to a decent start. .241 isn’t great, but for an 18 year old who didn’t have HS baseball I think it’s respectable for a professional debut. A lot of guys who sign at the deadline don’t play until the following year, so it’s good to also seem him get some real game action this year. I can see him opening 2012 in a short season league like at Kingsport or maybe Brooklyn. I don’t think the new front office will rush him early on. If he goes to one of the short season teams and dominates, then that may alter their plans for 2013 with St. Lucie a possibility for his 2nd full pro season. After that, well, it’s all up to Nimmo as to how quickly he moves. But I think intially the Mets will be cautious and not put too much pressure on him too soon, which I think will only help his development in the long run no matter how fast we fans want to see him reach Citi Field.

    Thanks for the comments. Haven’t done alot in the past month because i’ve focused on College, but its good to know that im doing good.

  he might just be starting with the wood bat too. Legion ball is usually metal. He may have played summer wood bat, but this is different.

  Hey he might only have minimal at bats in “professional” ball but what’s wrong with watching and talking about his progress, he is a Met?

  I am looking forward to his development and hopefully with the Bernazard/Minaya type of treating prospects into games beyond their abilities he, Nimmo, will be allowed to develop and get the necessary at bats and field play to make him a major part of this team in 3-4 years.

  . . . Mets fans tend to forget that Reese Havens was the Mets second first-round selection in 2008, behind Davis. Injuries have been the name of the game for Havens ever since he got drafted. Be it a bad back, a rib discomfort or a strained oblique, there has always been some form of malady to keep Havens on the sideline.

  However, when he has been healthy, he has always performed. He has plus-power out of the second base position (he was a shortstop in college) and has always been credited with great plate discipline and gap-to-gap ability, both huge qualities Sandy Alderson looks for. As Toby Hyde of MetsMinorLeagueBlog has pointed out, the only reason why Havens may not get a September audition is because the Mets are likely to send him to the Arizona Fall League to get more at-bats.
