Alderson: Reyes Could Miss 2-3 Weeks, Heading To DL
This is so unbelievable it’s difficult for me to even write, but general manager Sandy Alderson just said during a radio interview on WFAN that shortstop Jose Reyes is “very likely” to miss 2-3 weeks.
That’s about the same amount of time Reyes missed the last time he strained his left hamstring last month and went on the disabled list.
Expect Ruben Tejada and Justin Turner to patrol the middle of the diamond for the Mets in the foreseeable future.
Alderson also appeared with Mike Lupica on ESPN 1050 AM Radio, and said this regarding offseason negotiations with Jose Reyes:
“All kinds of things will be factored in. It would be hard for me to sit here and say the injuries won’t be factored in.”
Of course that was already obvious to most of us, but for all the doubters out there I figured I’d throw that in.

for most players, coming out with a hammy strain/tweak likely ends up meaning the DL. For Reyes, it should be an automatic trip!
you are not going to win any pennants if your best offensive player misses 30-35 games in a year. Teams can afford that if they have 1 or 2 guys better than the one who is out. Jose’s legs will always be a problem. That is why i said wait out the year, and why I would have traded him and said so. I do not sign him for real big bucks. I’ll take the picks.
I meant “wait out the year” in relation to his sick offensive numbers, not keep him past the trade deadline.
Well now the Mets might get him for less than a 100 mill deal… is 5 year $85-90 Mil the ceiling now?
On the other hand, Troy Tulo gets injured and got a huge 10-year deal…
Thought?
Troy’s gifts of power and RBI-ness are less likely to decline as Jose’s already injured legs.
Hey, if Reyes wants to break the bank and play for the Witness Protection Program for 10 years like Tulo, good luck to him.
It is hard to justify big bucks if you beieve a guy will miss significant time, if not every year then every other year. It is like holding your breath in April and exhaling in October. Tough.
People are DREAMING if they think this changes anything. And 135 games of Jose Reyes will look like a DREAM compared to 150 games of Alex Gonzalez @ SS. People need to relax and pray for us to resign Jose Reyes. We’re already regretting losing Beltran and K-Rod. Relax with the concerns about re-signing a guy “who is always hurt” as some of you like to whine about.
