In 4 games he had 2 HR's, a 1.000 Slug%, and .500 ISO.

Nice video Brandon. Bay has a long way to go before I start viewing him in a positive manner at the plate even with his Grand slam and 2 hr's last night but you have to start somewhere and hopefully these last few weeks are a sign that his journey back to being what many felt they were getting when he was signed.

Bay has a hx. of being incredibly streaky. Boston fans told me last year that when Bay is "hot" he will carry the team but when in a rut sucks the life-blood out of a lineup. This description seems about right. Although I can't say we have seen one of Bay's famous "Hot-Streaks" yet. Hopefully we are seeing the beginnings of one now. I'd be curious to see a monthly break-down of Bay's yearly offensive numbers.
Bay's yearly numbers are comparable to David Wright however Wright provides steady, consistent offensive production throughout the year while Bay's production is a high-pressure Fire-hose; either it's turned on or it's not.
I think this is the type of player Bay is and maybe just needed 1.5 years to settle into his style of "hot" and "cold." ..hahah.. But then again who the F knows... Haahahaa..

He hasn't gotten past the point where you do not consider trading him for salary reduction and won't even if his tear continues through till the deadline.

The question of if he is worth that money still exists and will until he puts together two seasons worth of what we thought we were paying for.

Beltran had a bad first year too. Look at him now even with the glued together knees!

It's too soon to say the Bay signing was a bust. but it is not too soon to potentially cut your losses when his value is high.

So Bay isn't out of the trade for Salary concerns woods just yet.

And continued power display will only make it more likely that he can be traded.

Thats doesn't mean we should it just means that if and when the deadline approaches we are no where near the top of the playoff race that his value might never be higher on him and the amount of salary needed to agree to pay on any trade is reduced.

It is an option for consideration and only his importance to our playoff race is a determining factor on if we fish or cut bait.

Yes, last year was sortof a pass for Bay, but as i wrote, its been a whole different story this year.

At one point, i was all for either trading him, or even sending him down to AAA. But now that he is coming around, i wonder if he can keep this up to where atleast Mets fans are neutral about him.

Sorry Barry but you got it wrong.

Bays issues did not last a season and a half. He missed all of the 2nd half of last season with an injury. He missed the early part of this season also due to injury.

Lets review...

Early 2010 - Getting used to new surroundings and NL pitching and without a bat like Beltran or Davis there as protection and a slumping in April David Wright, he hit for average just not power.

In Mid May and June Wright started hitting and so did Bay just not for power.
In July he got hurt and missed the last half of the season.

2011 - After a long way away from the game he needed to get back into the hitting zone. Carlos had the same issue last year didn't he? Took him an entire two months (July and August) to start hitting again. Bay took about the same time. Without Wright and Davis to protect him it makes sense it would take even longer. When your the only credible power bat other than Beltran it is easy to thwart that power.

It would be unfair to judge him based only on two halfs of disparate injury interupted seasons.

Now thats not saying he is fine and doesn't need to improve it just means that you have yet to see what Bay will do for an entire season. If he gets hot and stays hot or manages to have his career average when the season is said and done it means he will be very hot the rest of the way. And it doesn't matter WHEN you get the season numbers just important that you get them sometime during the season.

Yes he's hot now. He will cool off again eventually probably followed by another hot streak.

Lets wait and see what he did when the season is done.

First of all, I completely disagree that Bay's troubles are in his head. Here's why:

1) It's lasted one and half seasons--far longer than players who don't perform because of the pressure of a new contract.
2) He doesn't hit on the road. So it's not the pressure of the home-town fans.
3) He did have any power during his minor-league rehab stint this year. There is absolutely no pressure there.

Bay has been a total bust, and I wonder if it's physical. What was the issue that Boston brought up when they feebly tried to sign him? His shoulder? I don't remember.

Anyway, last year he hit two homers in one game (against the Yankees?). So I want to see his power continue for more than a couple of games, before I say he's back to where he was.

All he's been so far, is a singles-hitter who is not clutch at all. I hope the grand-slam and the two homers in one game are a sign of good things to come, but I'm not sold on it, yet.

brandon, quite honestly last year there was not so much attention because of the other guys, he sorta got a pass, not this year though, out the gate fans wanted to hold him accountable for his lack of production, he felt the pressure and started to press more than what should've. but now slowly but surely he's coming around, once david W comes back to be our #5 hitter, our offense will get much much better and we wnt have to sacrifice defense for offense
