T, I've no clue as to why down in the minors; but have always suspected Jeff in the debacle that's been Flushing's track record on injury recovery.
I barely recall specifics; but dfinitely recall tone in an interview around Jeff's promotion to COO in '02 in which he criticized NYM players as "soft" re. injury claims. Empowering him to heasd the post '09 "investigation" was, IMO,tantamount to naming the Pope to head up the gay marriage legitimacy panel.

Can there be any wonder as to why injury occurances, diagnostics & treatment programs are still a legitimate concern?

Joe, normally, in a vacuum, on paper, you're totally correct. consider this. Philly was supposed to run away with it due to their overall makeup of normally dominating offense & highly superior rotational pitching capable of lengthy dominance.
Despite all that, with Brown in their lineup they haven't been able to shake the suprising Braves & their comparative pop-gun offense. The question isn't what replacing Brown with Beltran can do for that situation, The question at hand is if Atlanta added a significant bat to upgrade that offense with a revived Uggla, a steady McCann & the irregular boost from Freeman + Heyward. putting Beltran & the added hope he'd represent into that Atlanta offense, CAN THE PHILLY'S COUNT ON MAINTAINING THEIR POSITION WITH BROWN IF BELTRAN WERE TO INFUSE MORE EFFECTIVENESS IN THEIR PURSUERS(ATLANTA)?

THAT, JOE IS THE REAL QUESTION PREVENTING BELTRAN FROM HURTING THEM WITH ATLANTA AT NO ADDITIONAL PAYROLL INVESTMENT IS CERTAINLY A SUBSTANTIAL WAY OF INSURING THEIR 160M INVESTMENT IS "COVERED" BY THE ADDITIONAL POSTSEASON ATTENDANCE BOOST. CERTAINLY AMARRO DIDN'T CREATE THE HIGHEST PAID LEAGUE ROTATION FOR A WILDCARD SLOT.

MANY EXPERTS IN PROGNOSTICATION ARE ENVISIONING A REPEAT NLCS FEATURING THE TWO STRONGEST ROTATIONS PHL & YOUR BELOVED GIANTS. WITH SF BEING SANS POSEY AS WELL AS IN ON THE BELTRAN STAKES; CERTAINLY KEEPING HIM ON THE EAST COAST OF DOWNTOWN PHL IS PREFERABLE TO HIS PAYING TOLLS OVER THE BAY BRIDGES. JOE, THERE'S MANY CONVOLUTION SCENERIOS TO CONSIDER THAT GO MUCH FURTHER THAN A TOP YOUNG TALENT FOR AN AGING RENTAL.

BESIDES AS A MET FAN, I'D PREFER A PHL DESTINATION DUE TO BORAS' WELL EARNED REP FOR NOT KEEPING HIS CLIENTS ON THE LAST ROSTER TO HOUSE HIM SO DEALING CARLOS ANYWHERE; BUT PHL INCREASES HIS POTENTIAL TO SIGN WITH THEM FOR THE NEXT FEW SEASONS!

Brown will be in the Majors 4 years or so before Nimmo assuming they both make it but those two guys upside is far higher than any two OFer we have had at the sametime since Straw and the combination of Mookie and Lenny.

     That would really be exciting.

The best talent represents the best value, even if you have to wait a couple of years for it.

What would be better? A Brian McCrae who could be here from 2012-2018 or a Jim Edmonds type who you have to wait a couple of years for.

When you think about it impatience is what has cost this team over and over again.

Gary Brown through 2/3rds of the season is lighting it up on both sides of the ball in A+, 213/385/467 24 doubles, 6 triples, 8 HR's, 57 RBI and 39 SB's.

One year at AA in 2012 and a half season in AAA and up here in July 2013 if things continue on the way they have so far this year.

I'd rather get the better player and wait a couple of years.

You know what else is just crazy enough an idea to be entertained? Packaging Beltran AND Bay and a boatload of his salary there for a bigger return. The Giants currently play Cody Ross and his .260/.348/.415 with 7 home runs there. Maybe the Mets can sell a change of scenery and smaller ballpark for Bay and eat money. Why not Brown, Wheeler and maybe Eric Surkamp?

A little more on Gary Brown: He's the third ranked prospect in the Giants system. He's speed/defense guy with a solid bat, this is first full season in pro ball and he's hitting .313/.384/.468 with eight home runs in 91 games. In his minor league career, he's made only three errors in 101 games in CF. In those 91 games, he's got 39 SBs, but he's been caught 14 times. Not a good enough ratio for my liking, but he'll improve on that in the Mets system with guys like Mookie helping him. He's got unreal speed, plenty of range and takes good routes to the ball.

He's the kind of player that was built for Citi Field.
