If a team like the Giants, Phillies and Braves and others know that a Carlos Beltran can get them to the playoffs and series, they will work out a deal. Alderson knows that and all of this talk by these so called experts come after 3 or 4 martinis. I have more faith in the comments by the Met faithful on this site.

Is it possible that the "sweetner" could be just recently promoted Juan Lagares? He was just brought up to AA a few weeks after the normal mid season promotion (as was Satin to AAA) and just in time to play the Phillies AA team in Reading.

Lagares was an Omar Minaya signing from 2006 who had his first real breakout in Savannah last year, followed it up with a poor showing in 33 games at the end of 2010 in A+ but really took off there this year .348/.388/.513 17 doubles 7 triples 7 HR's as a 22 year old (a year old for A+) but would fill the need for a RH corner OF bat for the Phills down the road say mid 2013.

That could make up in some way for the loss of Dominick Brown and afford the Phills the chance to take full advantage of a rotation they will probably never be able to put together again.

Personally I wouldn't like to see us trade away Lagares in a Dominick Brown deal due to the fact that Brown has a very long swing. Feast or famine approach. No sure thing by a longshot. Gary Brown of the Giants A+ team has a lot of motion in his hands and hips which he uses to generate some momentum is a little weird but I don't see it as making him inconsistent and streaky and it would certainly be easier to change than a swing engrained in someone since they were 12.

SF also could use a 2nd basemen in the near future so I'd say if Satin (25) and/or Lagares (22) were sweetners Gary Brown would be my preference as well as being able to play CF even with an average arm at best.

Lagares is far more similar to the Phils Brown than the Giants though aside from handedness.

How many of these so called "insiders" ever gotten anything right?

They are there just to provide fodder for sports shows and to give bloggers something to talk and argue about.

I say it again all these so called deals for prospects have been proposed by media and insider types because if not then what are they getting paid for? Just Saying!

The way I see it, this is Rosenthal's speculation or idea and it does not indicate a willingness from management to include other players at all.

I'll take it with a grain of salt - it's not a bad idea but I think Beltran alone may drive a high return. Hell, Casey Blake got traded for Carlos Santana and a reliever in 08, and Beltran is much more productive in my eyes.

I don't understand why, at this point - and especially AFTER they Beltran, why the Mets would keep anyone who is not expected to be with the team next year - the aforementioned Byrdak, Capuano, Harris, Hairston etc - don't get us dreaming with the possibility of getting rid of Pelfry or Bay. How about Beltran for free if they take Bay?? It would be a big addition by subtraction!!!!

certainly makes sense, depending on what else they need/want.

someone like Byrdak? Of course. And if really good talent coming back, you can throw in say Capuano, someone like that.

Or maybe a lower level prospect of some sort.

Pelf would be a more interesting case, but i suppose if th eoffer was right, it could happen.

If nothing else, should be interesting.
