I do not think the Mets should try to do a deal with either the Phillies or the Yankees. Sh&t just seems to always backfire on the Mets. I would rather send him to the Boston Red Sox so they can beat the Yankees and we also would not be helping the Phillies ~ If the Phills went on to win the World Series they would have even MORE money to spend on talent in the future and the Mets would never stand a shot at winning with that team in our division!

Phillies don’t deserve Beltran, he is to good to wear a Philliy uniform.
If anything they are the chokers, and i am glad they made Hammels black and blue.
Mr. Beltran is a role model any one can look up too, if anything Carlos please veto trade to Philliy.

It is one thing to play manager, and GM, I think that is what blogs are basically about. You can even play fan if you want, although I think that waving pom poms on a blog winds up being a case of telling other people what a true fan is or what a bad fan they are. It is kind of like telling people in everyday life how they should think or how they should live. Criticism, and saying you don’t like someone is also a legitimate way to express yourself. Everyone does it. To bash someone relentlessly, though, is pathetic and ridiculous. These people, even the Omars, do not get to this level without displaying some smarts. Does anyone on this blog actually believe they could do a better job than the people in place? Is it possible to dislike EVERYTHING someone does as a GM? This is not just analysis, there are other issues at work here, and I coud care less what they are. I just don;t read them after a while. I personally do not read all the posts here. Sometimes I make comments that are redundant because I have not read every answer before I post. I would recommend that if people are incensed at a blogger that they ignore that blogger. These sites are supposed to provide information and enjoyment. Let the players give us aggravation. Don’t feel that you have to respond to every comment, particularly if you see no value in it.

It is so dumb. All these blogs arguing about whether Beltran should be traded, or whether he should be traded to the Phillies, or not. The facts are the facts and this is what we know so far: Sandy IS actively “shopping” Tran, Sandy Has submitted a list with Philly on it, so obviously he doesn’t agree with you all that say “you can’t trade him in the division”. You can piss and moan all you want but SA is going to do what SA wants. Not what you all think he should. So to make a major stink about how smart you are, because you know exactly what SA should be doing with Beltran, and the rest of us are a bunch of idiots, is really quite pointless. It has very little to do with talking baseball on any meaningful level, and is more like fantasy land.
We know Beltran is going, that much is pretty clear. We know he has been given a list of teams that the Mets are discussing a trade with. We know the Mets are willing to eat some salary. But for blogger x to try and tell me that prospect Y is a “pos”, like he knows something about baseball and the rest of us should bow down, kiss his ring, and hang on his every word, I don’t think that guy knows squat. He don’t know Gary Brown, from Domonic Brown, or Emil Brown, for that matter. I for one, am tired of his insulting hogwash, his one-sided analysis, his bigoted opinions, and his stupid statements and idiotic demeanor. I think you all know which “person” I refer to.

I’m fine with him going to the Phillies. With their big contracts for Halladay, Lee, Utley and Howard, its unlikely that the Phils resign him. Beltran isn’t the same guy we signed years ago, but I don’t see him taking a “small contract” next year. I don’t think its a move that would bite us in the future, though possibly, its a move that might bite the Phils (if the prospect turns out to be good), and I’m all for anything that the Phils end up regretting.

Wow, what a bad spot for Mets.

I would hate for him to go to Phillies of all teams because of the rivalry between teams and the fact that we might not win does not take away from fact we will be playing 2 or 3 series against Phillies in Sept and I would love for Mets to knock off Phils and make it harder for them down the stretch and harder on their staff going into playoffs.

Yanks, as much as I detest them would be ok and Red Sox good so that they can complete the beat down of Yanks who don’t have any pitching, hey maybe they take Pelfrey from us?

I know Alderson has to get the best player in return for Beltran but I’m against sending him to Philly to help them. Ship him to the American league or at least another NL team.

Getting the best return for Beltran or whomever the Mets are going to trade should be the only concern. Beltran has been a great Met, minus a few injuries, he deserves to play for a winner and that, obviously, is not happening in Queens. Hate to see the Phillies succeed, but, to be quite honest, if the Mets aren’t going to contend, than I don’t care about which other teams are…I’m just concerned with improving the Mets future. However, considering that this is the 3rd article written on this site already today about a possible destination for Beltran, than I’m not really going to be too interested in the rumors until something happens. Personally, I would like to see him traded to the Pirates because they have the best prospects to give back in return…include one of their pitching prospects and Starling Marte and you have a great return for Beltran.

Without reading the other comments, my feeling is that if the Mets believe Beltran would re-sign with the Phillies I wouldn’t do it. But if he is just a rental for them, I don’t have a problem with it.

a pure rental like this is a different story. If anything, it makes your competition worse in the future and you better (if th eprospect back is really good of course).

In the old days you did not have FA and arbitration compensation either.

hell, if they are trading the guy, you want the Mets to take back a lesser return just to not help the phils or braves for this year only?

For starters, Beltran isn’t a CF anymore. So referencing his time at CF is a waste of time.

Secondly, I dont care where he goes because wherever he goes means that team offered the best possible deal.

Third, I didn’t know Kyle Drabek was already deemed crap because he’s 23 years old?

And what makes Dom Brown a “pos”? Having Dom Brown on the Mets would do more for this franchise than 2 months of Carlos Beltran.
