yankeefan, can you please enlight us and go tell us when hasn’t parnell fail?? starter? a bust, 7th inning? crap, closer?? pu-lease!!! set up guy?? well, good luck with that.. again, some ppl exceed when they get the opp, others just fold, we have a few of these “talented, but no heart or brains” type players

Our catching issues is worth an article. I think that going into this season and especially after Spring Training on top of a nice two months last year,we thought Thole would be a solid, if not spectacular catcher, for this team for the remainder of the decade. What the heck happened ? Was not doing Winter ball a mistake?

I dont believe Thole is a part of the mets future. He cant hit enough and is not a great catcher. No power at all. Parnell dosent have the make up for a closer.

Parnell is a decent part of the bullpen in some capacity or another. One of 5 good RH arms in a well conceived bullpen. What role will he excel at? Probably nothing more than ROOGY if he doesn’t at the very least develop a show me pitch.

If that show me pitch becomes a decent offering he can very well become a better than average closer.

This is the biggest reason you don’t rush pitching prospects through the system. You cannot live with the losses on the Major League level that come with learning on the job. That’s what the minors are for.

I don’t kill Minaya for his counting on Parnell for the 7th inning in 2009 but he had to know (everyone had to know) that it would come with a cost and that cost was one of development. Like Pelfrey he just never was afforded the time to develop a 3rd pitch.

When the Braves bring up a rookie that guy is good to. Ready to help win games. If they have to they’ll pick up a Derrick Lee rather than bring Freeman up too soon or a Wagner rather than rush a Kimbrell or Venters.

Rushing your prospects ensures that you’ll never get as much from them as you could and that by the time they are ready to dominate they’ll be gone in free agency and off to another team.

What kind of shortsighted philosophy is that?

not only that, he has a mediocre slider and he keeps wanting to use it when he has an 100 mph FREAKING FASTBALL, i don’t care how flat it is, USE IT!!!!!! thole calls a horrendous game behind the plate, look, i like thole, i really do, but the kid imo has no clue how to handle a pitcher, specially if in trouble, ppl forget that the phillies pitching staff is as good because carlos ruiz shows leadership behind the plate, he’s very underrated imo, is not only hitting, but is working with your pitchers and giving them confident, the mets haven’t had that in a while..

He has been very shaky in 4 of his 5 appearances and the look on his face says it all. He wont be the closer of the future just like Eddie Kunz wasn’t. One-trick ponies.

as usual, nice article, you kinda sound surprised at parnell suckiness.. this man has allowed 8 runners in 4.1 ip since krod was traded, here’s an opp to show the fans and everyone in the org you don’t suck, yet he does, SP, relief, closing, set up, you name it, parnell has had every chance and yet he’s failed in each one.. good luck for those who wanted krod out of here to save cash for the wilpons.

If I’m not mistaken, Parnell had the 4th lowest ERA in the NL coming into this weekend – taken from stats compiled since mid May. I haven’t looked at his peripherals or other stats lately, but I’m willing to bet there more or less in line of looking at a good relief pitcher.

I might be in the minority but I’m not as down on Parnell as some Met fans seem to be. He looks like he’s taken a step up in the past couple of weeks and I’m still holding out help he can be the closer going into next year.

He’s been living in the KRod shadow and now Izzy – to a small extent. I’ll be curious to see what he brings into the table when it’s all on him.

Whatever happened to the Josh Thole of last year that looked to put the all in play but now seems to be lost at the plate?

Ever since that Glavine game against Fish way back when, the Florida Marlins are a team that I don’t look forward to playing, apart from the really bad announcers” cause they seem to have the Mets number.
Look at Pelfrey’s numbers against the Fish, what is wrong with this man and it always seem that they comeback on Mets all the time.

Hopefully Gee will get better after this start cause what today’s game shows is that when you don’t have an out pitch then, as used to happen to Maine, they will foul off your good pitches. (Please I’m not comparing him to Maine)

How many times did we have runners in scoring position, especially 3rd and we can’t get a SF or a ground ball?

Having David, Jose and Carlos back is great but without steady pitching and until Bay, Pagan and whomever is catching get going then it will be difficult to out score the other team.

Why is Bay playing while a red-hot Duda sits Terry? I hope he plays more in Cincy.
