Pelfrey Punished In Fifth, Bullpen Can’t Hold, Mets Lose 8-5 To Phillies

Mike Pelfrey

Mike Pelfrey had four good innings, but was punished in the fifth inning and the bullpen failed to stop the bleeding and a late-inning push couldn’t save the Mets as they lost the game 8-5, and the series to the Phillies Game Notes Mike Pelfrey had a bad outing, getting through four innings relatively unscathed, then getting smoked for a home run. Pelfrey’s final line was four runs on six hits, walking one and striking [...]

Mets Minors: Jeurys Familia Placed on the Disabled List

According to Michael Diaz of Mets Minor League Blog, Mets pitching prospect Jeurys Familia was placed on the Disabled list retroactive to July 14 with a right shoulder impingement. The move was “precautionary” according to B-Mets pitching coach Marc Valdes, and there is no timetable for his return. After six starts for Single-A Port St. Lucie in which he posted a 1.49 ERA, Familia was promoted to Double-A Binghamton where he made ten starts and [...]

All Systems Go – Reyes Set To Return Tuesday

Jose Reyes ran the bases on Sunday and looked and felt fantastic afterwards. Manager Terry Collins was very pleased with what he saw and said Reyes looked great. Reyes will participate in some more baseball activities today and then play a rehab game at Class A Brooklyn on Monday before rejoining the Mets on Tuesday. A final decision on Reyes will be made after Sunday’s game. Yesterday, Jose Reyes ran at full speed, and took batting practice in what Terry Collins [...]

Mets Had A Good “Hair” Day Last Night

Scott Hairston

You can read all about the Mets proficiency against the Phillies’ Cole Hamels in this witty and insightful post by Ed Leyro, penned after last night’s game. On another note, how about the play of utility outfielder Scott Hairston lately and his huge career game at Citi Field last night? It turns out that while the Mets as a team own Cole Hamels, Scott Hairston may be the one player who actually holds the title and [...]

Chacin, 30, was released last week by the Houston Astros after posting a 5.13 ERA in nine starts and 18 relief appearances for their Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City. Mets Show Receipt, Proving They Own Cole Hamels

If you’re a regular reader of MMO, you know that I haven’t done a recap here since 2009. However, after today’s 11-2 blowout of the Phillies, it would be hard for me not to do a recap, basically because there’s something I have to get off my chest. It’s something that’s been on my mind ever since I listened to WFAN on a cold December afternoon in 2008, when Cole Hamels called the Mets “choke [...]

Carlos Beltran = Pure Awesomeness

No need to worry about why Carlos Beltran is not in the line-up today, Terry Collins said he is suffering from flu-like symptoms. Conspiracy theorists – go back to your places for now. Beltran started his second half with a bang last night, hitting his 14th homerun of the season in the eighth inning, and scoring two runs while going 1-for-2 with two walks. Offensively for the Mets, he was a one-man show as the [...]

A Look at Possible Prospects in Potential Carlos Beltran Deal

If the Mets are truly interested in getting an “A” prospect in return for Carlos Beltran here are some guys they need to consider from potentially interested teams. Detroit Tigers 1. Jacob Turner – 1st round pick in 2009 and part of the terrific high school crop that featured Zack Wheeler (who we will see later), Shelby Miller, Tyler Matzek, and Matt Purke. The Tigers selected him 9th overall (the second of of the group [...]

Mets Farm Report: July 15th, 2011 – 6th Round Pick Joe Tushak Debuts

Buffalo Bisons 8 – Rochester Red Wings 4 Hits galore for both teams. Luckily for Pat Misch and the Heard the Red Wings went just 4-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Misch allowed a two-out rally in the 3rd to give up a run, three straight singles the 5th for a run, and back-to-back doubles in the 6th for the final run against him. The Bisons needed three pitchers to close out the 9th because [...]
