Did Piazza ever win an MVP? I don’t think he did, I’ll have to check. I know Yogi and Bench did.

Piazza wasn’t in Bench’s league defensively. I’d say Bench is still the greatest C of all time. Nothing against Piazza. Being the 2nd or 3rd best ever is not a bad thing and he’s a sure thing Hall of Famer

I don’t think its really up for discussion about him being the best hitting catcher of all time. Bench was never a .300 hitter and he played tons of games at other positions. No catcher can even come close to what piazza did. .360 with power?!?! That’s UNHEARD of! Pudge was never the triple crown threat Piazza was either.

His claim to fame was his bat not his glove and when it comes to HOF catchers, while the bat is important the glove is also very much in consideration and no one in their right mind would ever claim Piazza was great calling games behind the plate.

He wasn’t awful but he was not the best in the game with the glove.

I think one 10 game u7nder .500 slump would be the trigger on when and if Beltran gets traded.

And if it’s even close, considering what we might get back for a two month rental it might even make sense to just keep Beltran and hope he gets a big contract so we get a compensatory pick for losing a Type A.

OR simply resign him to a reasonable contract ourselves.

No we can’t get picks because we can’t arbitrate but we can still get compensation if Beltran gets a fat contract. We didn’t think he would get that when the season started due to his knees but he has played so well and without needed to rest that our initial assesment of what Beltran might get has changed.

It all depends on who is in the ballot with him.

With Clemens, Sosa and Bonds on the ballot that year, although the odds of them making it are slim to none, the votes will be divided up amongst Piazza Sosa Bonds Schilling Clemens to an extent, and not to mention whoever is left on the ballot after the 2012 vote.

Not to mention what happened to Jeff Bagwell, a player of similar numbers, only receiving 44% mostly do to the suspicion of steroids surrouding him. Don’t forget that even though I think it is ridiculous to think Piazza took steroids, there is suspicion surrounding him as well that might sway voters too.
