Kevin, among the subspecies known as “knuckleballers”, Dickey is adolescent. Most pitched well into their 40s & remained effective. When evaluating RA’s overall career, you must consider there are two sets of numbers one as a standardized pitcher & one as a knuckler that, I believe has a demarcation year of 2010 his inauggral total knuckle season.

These 2 subcategories are independent of each other just as the catepillar is independent of the subsequent moth or butterfly.

Alex, u do realize the assuming club would be paying a huge multimillion dollar sum to just rent him until season’s end when with Boras as his agent they’ll get to waive goodbye NB that’s spelt good BYE not good BUY!

As the assuming club gets no compensatory picks for his departure, PERHAPS U CAN EXPLAIN WHY ANY TEAM IS LIKELY TO GIVE ANYTHING LET ALONE A PROSPECT IN ADDITION TO THE NEAR $10M IN SALARY RELIEF WE’RE PROFITING BY.

Fourteen hundred or so innings are needed for the mound in 2012 — trade away decent, not necessarily great, pitchers and next year becomes a greater problem. We need good value or money returned for our pitching assets.

because if it is august 25th and the Mets are 12 out of the WC, the PTBNL (and $ saved) is at least something vs. seeing him walk away at year end for nothing.

Before we start trading all these starting pitchers, can you tell me who is going to replace them. There is nobody in the system ready for next year and you can’t count on Johan at all. If we trade anybody, it should be Pelfrey because we could get a major league ready arm back for him. I could see trading Capuano if we get a good prospect back. But Dickey, Niese and Gee have to stay.

What are you talking about?

After a slow start he’s been pitching very well. Knuckle ballers usually have a longer life than regular pitchers so why don’t you want him back next year? Especially if he continues to be pitching very good like he is now?

I would like to know why you think Dickey might be traded? He’s has a very team firendly contract and as a middle of the rotation guy I would say he’s exceeded expectations.

Trading Beltran in August sounds even worse than trading him in July. Why the heck would we want a PTBNL for an All Star?
