if ike comes back,if dw still hits well and a huge if santana comes back effective and there is no gurantee they are going to add payroll.2012 team is going to look a lot like 2011 minus beltran and reyes.

not true. you can match Beltran’s production. He is not Albert Pujols. Of course, we will miss all those WS rings that Beltran and Reyes brought to the team. You put together a very good pitching staff, and a serviceable lineup and you are way better than this team.

Ike will be back, Wright will be back. Johan willl be back. They will sign some people. Heck, right now they have 5 or 6 AAA players starting. Of course they can improve on that.

Maybe you cannot fill all of the necessary positions in one year, but you can do some. Without Reyes you can do more. I look for this to be an improved team next year, particularly if Johan returns to any kind of form, which is doubtful considering the type of injury he has. But if he does, we can be better. Not Phillies better but maybe we can push the Braves. It will take a lot longer to become an elite team. I would unload Pelfrey if someone woud have him. I actually believe that guys like him are a drag on the team’s morale. And even if Reyes came back (I doubt it) we would still need a big bopper to protect Wright. Let’s see what comes of the Beltran deal I still would not rule out a Reyes trade, though. Not if someone kills you with an offer.

yeah, because sandy’s org have produced great talent while he’s at the helm. or depodesta’s players have become superstars right?? keep drinking the kool aid.. the giants sucked for 4 or 5 years, developed pitching, we developed david wright and reyes, now we got davis, we need pitching but our plan should be pitching, pitching, pitching, and with the first pick in this year draft what do we get? brandon nimmo instead of what? PITCHING!!!! buster posey is good, let’s not make him out to be a godsend, demonic brown?? really?? again, this org suck for many years, their fans don’t care as much and that’s why they can develop their players properly, in a city like ny, where the idiots build an all class stadium, prices are trough the roof on ticket prices and food, they wanna repay the fans by putting crap on the field and telling them to wait and see?? yeah, good luck with that..

You are right on every point. The Mets simply are not a contender, and now they are not even a .500 team anymore. The only way out of this mess, is by very slowly building a productive farm system. A lot of fans on here say that the Mets farm system is better than the experts say, because we have relied so heavily on minor leaguers at the big league level this year. But don’t be fooled, the farm system is very weak and has hardly any blue chip prospects, other than Mejia (injured), Familia (injured) and Matt Harvey (still at least a year away). Sure we have flawed contributers like Turner and Duda and Murphy and Thole, but where are our Mike Stanton’s? Our Demonic Brown’s? Our Buster Posey’s? We don’t have any. We have Kirk Neuienhuis (injured) and FMart (injured) and Wilmer Flores. What we need, is to do what the Pirates have started to do, what the Marlins and Braves and Reds and Giants do. We need to build a farm system that produces talented, well rounded baseball players. And lots of them. It can be done. Omar was not smart enough to do this, Sandy is. The fans may not like it, but Sandy at least understands what is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it. Just remember this, we are starting out with practically nothing. It will definitely take some time. 2011? Nope. 2012? Uh-uh. 2013? Maybe.

I just don’t happen to think that Thole is any good. Offensively or defensively. And Paulino is what he is. A part-timer. A slightly more fit Ramon Castro. That is why even the Reyes signing is so problematic. We need a whole new outfield, a catcher, a 2B, maybe a closer. No matter what he makes, Bay cannot continue to start for the next two years with this production level. He has become Ollie Perez II: a guy who suddenly performs so far below his expected level that he cannot play regularly no matter what. Pagan is ridiculously undisciplined at the plate. He swings at garbage all the time. Beltran is gone. Turner is a bench player, useful perhaps, but he cannot hold up for the long haul as a major league starter. Tejada might be something offensively some day, but we do not know. Even if they spend all of the money that comes off the books they might not be able to fill these holes, whether they sign Jose or not.

How can this team win with the Buffalo contributors coming up in situations that they are not experienced or ready for? Look at Tejada who was at least dependable for this fielding and now he is having problems, replace Jose at SS, I don’t think so.

Even with Helmsley pitching you have Harris batting 3rd, Hairston 5th and now Paulino has turned into an automatic 1st pitch hitter, don’t he know that pitchers know that, predictable batter.

Murphy still looks out of place at 3b and did we really think this lineup was going to score with Bay, Pagan, Tejada and Thole in a funk along with the bench starters? Get real.

How can an honest evaluation be made by SA, front office and Terry when you are playing your 2nd and 3rd string players who as hard as they play are 2nd and 3rd string players for a reason.

Marlins ran all over Thole and Paulino tonight, don’t we know how to hold runners on?

I said this earlier but I just still can’t get over how the Marlins a team that endured a 5-23 June are a half game behind us in the loss column.

Meanwhile don’t look now but the Nats with a win tonight (they currently have a 5-2 lead in the top of the 9th) would pull ahead of us in the win column.

The good news is that Reyes should be back 2morrow and Collins said he expects to have Beltran in the lineup 2morrow as well (at least he plans on penciling him in).

Wright coming back on Friday also should help.
