Still made up 12 games and if you really think all those other teams are going to make it up then why can’t we?

You want HOF at every position fine but you don’t NEED HOF at every position to win the division!

You deem the grass greener in Philly and Atlanta but really the only thing they have on us is Pitching!

While it’s true the Mets offense is much better than the Braves’ this year, 2nd base isn’t an area of strength with Turner. If Murphy can play an adequate 2nd then it would be a position of strength. Next season if Davis and Wright are healthy I’d rather have Murphy at 2nd than Turner or a platoon of the two. The team doesn’t have any major league ready starters with upside, so it’s not something you can improve immediately.

They are every bit good enough to contend. The reason we are as many games back is EVERYTHING to do with Pitching!

Compare our team to Atlanta.
What have they got that we don’t?
Does Gonzalez match up with Reyes?
Jones when not hurt might beat out Wright.
Uggla may have more pop than Turner but he’s hitting .206 on the year!

It’s their rotation and pen that has then 6.5 games ahead of us.

Turner may not be good enough to be an everyday player. But him and Murphy are probably a better combiation that Backman and Teufel were!

And they had Rafael Santana playing next to them not Reyes.

Answer: Atlanta 6.5 games ahead of us and 7 games ahead of the Phillies.

Who won the Division and by how many games?
Answer: Phillies by 6 games! Made up 13 games on the Braves in that time!

How many games behind Atlanta are we today?
Answer 6.5

And if they think like you then no point in saving kids anyway because the problem won’t be talent it will be your poor attitude that will KEEP them out of contention until they stop surrendering halfway through the season!

They didn’t hoard kids, They just picked a lot with high draft position and missed by passing on guys they had to give up three players for to get back when they could have just taken them with one pick (if they did not pass) and traded what was left for something else.

So tell me are they hoarding kids now?

It’s always good to have depth in the minors because players get hurt and underperform. Depth can be used to fill in the production or be used to trade for replacements. But when you are 7.5 games behind the wildcard this far into the season you have little chance of making the playoffs. And when you are in a tough division that is only getting tougher with the young players and prospects that Washington, Atlanta, and Florida have, you have to make moves that will make the team competitive for the next 5-8 years in what will be the toughest division in the NL. Being a slightly better than .500 team won’t cut it.

because adding players also means losing players. and the wild card isnt gonna happen. if trades happen they should be geared toward winning some other time, not now.

Ok so name the player they traded away to HOARD those players they used to get Pence…

Nice theory you have about HOW the Phillies get those players they traded but it has about as much to do with reality and JRR Tolkiens Middle Earth!

We certainly have had quite a few guys come up and that is awesome, but when they come up, they have to get replaced in the system too.

Stacking, hoarding kids is part of the process, not just to see them in Mets uniform but to see them help us acquire someone even better to put in a Mets uniform.

What is your obsession with this minor league kid? You disappeared from this site when Tejada was promoted and stayed here a long time until he stopped hitting and NOW you’re saying Turner will be eventually gone? HOW DO YOU KNOW? How do you know that Turner doesn’t turn into our 2B of the future? You keep putting all these people down in the name of a kid who just finished up A ball and has yet to show anything in AA ball or show he can even stay healthy let alone even play at the AA level yet. You’re even creating scenarios with havens already in the Mets lineup! What about Valdespin?

Tejada is GOING to be a starting major leaguer, he’s ONLY 21 and we’ve witnessed the ebbs and flows of a prospect developing at the major league level and NOW we’re seeing the same thing with Turner and the Mets as a TEAM have prospered with BOTH guys. Turner is one of the Mets biggest clutch hitters for crissakes. How do YOU know he isn’t the answer for this team at 2B, maybe he is maybe not, time will tell. Why can’t you be happy about that? Instead it’s almost as if you wish ill on anybody who plays 2B until your boy toy…oh wait…IF you’re boy toy ever..EVER even makes it to the majors. Years of watching baseball has taught you NOTHING.

But ask yourself this…

Who are you sitting to play him?
Murphy or Turner?

I mean it is already bad enough that we are likely going to have to lose either/or half the time to get both into the lineup.

Now that could change if Reyes leaves as Turner probably moves the SS and Murphy moves to 2nd.
But even in that scenario where does Havens play?

The problem as I see it isn’t so much Turner but Murphy.
Like it or not he is a big part of the fighting spirit on this team.
Save a trade of Wright or a never return of Davis there is no way to keep him in the lineup save the 2B position.

And I would guess thats where he is going to wind up with Turner acting as the utility IF.
Maybe they can convert him to the OF which would give Havens just enough Daylight to beat out Turner for the 2B position.

Now maybe something changes (Turner reverts to journeyman numbers) o they manage to convert Murphy to the OF.

But as it stands right now it will be tough for havens to even get a call up as our IF looks set (with the exception of the unknown in the case of reyes) for what would appear to be the next 4 or 5 years.

I agree with you that what Turner does will dictate Haven’s fortunes and viability.

But there is also the concern in that it was Turner and Murphy who seemed to generate the fight we have exhibited lately.

Its a good problem to have granted but at this point you have to wonder if Havens will ever see the light of day here.
