Izzy Asks Alderson Not To Trade Him

According to the New York Daily News, Izzy has asked Sandy Alderson to not trade him.  When asked about being traded, Isringhausen said this.

I have two places in my hear; St. Louis, because I’m from there, and New York, because this is where I started. Those are my two favorite spots, and I don’t think I’m going back to St. Louis anytime soon. And I love it here…To be able to get close, or maybe even make the playoffs, coming from a team that wasn’t supposed to do anything, that’s fun..If there is a chance that we can do that, I want to be a part of it…I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone next year, but for the next year, I want to remain a Met. I signed here to be a Met, and that’s how I want to finish the season. It would be great to keep everybody intact.”

In response to Izzy making these comments, GM Sandy Alderson said that “its a form of expression” and will “take it into account and will weigh it accordingly”.

Its great to see a player like Izzy say that he wants to stay with the team. It also speaks volumes about the manager and the morale in the clubhouse.

Do you think Jason Isringhausen will be traded?  Do you think his comments will have an impact on being traded?

  • It’s great to hear him say that and yes, you are right, it reflects very well on Terry, who was obviously the perfect choice to manage this team. I hope they don’t trade him. They seem much more likely to trade K Rod, and we are going to need something to replace our closer with if they do. To trade K Rod AND Izzy would be crazy, because you would then be dependent on Parnell and Beato to close all your games. It would be much smarter to use Izzy as closer and let him mentor the younger guys.

  • It looks like a no brainer that the Mets will look to trade K-Rod. He has done the job but he remains a guy who makes a manager nervous and his salary for next year is prohibitive. If they trade him to a contender that needs a closer he could bring back a good prospect or two. The team has played well especially with the injuries and could contend but only if Wright and Davis return and play very well. Of course it would require Jose Reyes to be healthy and ready to go no later than the end of July. TOO MANY IF’S

Parnell and Beato both have good arms but are they ready to take over as closers?

  • To be able to get close, or maybe even make the playoffs, coming from a team that wasn’t supposed to do anything, that’s fun..If there is a chance that we can do that, I want to be a part of it…”

you hear that saber sandy?? players know this is a special team somehow, that’s something you won’t find on a stat sheet when looking for numbers, but this team have something in them that makes them likeable and a threat. reyes, wright and davis will be back soon, send pelfrey packing or to triple A, try to get a starting pitcher who won’t crumble like he does, and let’s make a run at this thing..

    • Know what’s even more fun and more special? Having a real good team with lots of talent. Being likable and a threat is cute and all, but that’s a loser mentality. Being likable is secondary. Throw that all out the window if you can actually be a better team. To win, you need talent, not just a bunch of likable guys.

      • don’t we also have talent??? too bad jason bay forgot how to hit, wright went from unclutch to useless, ike davis got soft on us and missed 2 months+ of action, no true ace on SP, useless bench players like hu and eamus for a whole monht or so, bullpen garbage like carrasco and co..
we got the talent, injuries have made us fall back, remember, we’re 41-32 since starting the season 5-13!!!!!!!!!!!

        • “don’t we also have talent???”

And then you proceed to bash everyone on the team. Awesome. And lest we forget, the 41-32 record you’re putting on a pedestal is a .562 winning percentage and still leaves the Mets playing golf in October, not baseball.

The Mets are pretenders in the worst sense of the word right now because they still give three or four people here some glimmer of hope of winning ten of 12 and jumping ahead of the pack, which won’t happen because talent wins games, not likability.

          • who do i bash not named david wright with man on base or pelfrey every time he pitches???

          • please make sure that you name one person i bash without having a reason, jason bay sucks, he’s worthless and is probably the biggest bust as a met in history, now is that bashing or fact?

            • It’s both. I never said it was unjstified, but you scream about all the talent this team has and then you bash six names! Plus you didn’t say Pelfrey in that diatribe, so that’s seven, and you added “and co.” to the Carrasco bashing. So we’re looking at what, ten guys? And you’re right! So how does this team have playoff talent if you’re justified in telling the world how crappy 40% of the roster is?

              • because a few teams got a roster 100% of pure talent.. name me the phillies offensive players, other than maybe howard n utley right now, who else jumps at you?

            • jason bay is not the biggest bust in met history the mets are still paying bobby bonilla from 10 years ago and dont forget when the mets tried to pull a yankee stunt and signed mo vaughn and roberto alomar

              • uh, first of all, bonilla at least hit hr’s, he didn’t carried us anywhere but at least he put up #’s, second of all, mo vaughn and alomar were trades, not signed.. biggest free agents busts the mets have signed imo are appier, oliver perez, castillo, bay and foster..

  • Izzy is here because he wanted to finish his career as a met.

Considering what we might get for him I would be inclined to say you know thats worth more to me than any kid he might get me back.

I say grant his request and don’t trade him. He is likely to retire after this season anyway.
So let him go out a MET!

  • Screw him. A guy at the end of his career, who id his shinitg elsewhere, and we have to bow to his wishes. Baloney. This is worsae than celebrating Sheffield’s 500th HR as if he had hit more than one as a Met. Every ball player knows it is a business. grow up Izzy fans. He’s useless to this org going forward and takes the innings a kid could use to develop. When will this fan base want to win instead of whatever little fantasy is the latest turn on?

  • if talent is supposed to win then why did the rangers beat the yankees in the playoffs last year and the giants with that lineup win the world series. you dont need to be talented to win you need to work together why you think the yankees have 1 WS win in the past 10 years?
