Agreed ’62. The franchise (and I’m not referring to David Wright here) continues to exhibit small market tendencies. It’s time to treat such situations with true professionalism and that includes having supporting resources available within the confines of Citifield. Fortunately, the latest news on this indicates that good news has fortunately materialized on this particular instance. But that is no reason not to think about preparedness for future eventualities.

Mask, spot on; but aren’t we destined for a good outcome by now?
I’m no M.D.; but I have to believe that in the entire world there is no other geography as limited in acreage as NYC that could possibly have a more dense inventory of active MRI tubes available, if so, why is this so nonexpendable & valuable a player being allowed to go home without a full diagnosis & recommended trestment plan? In this day & age of digital imaging & electronic mailing, I’m confounded as to why he wasn’t immediately carted off to a tube for images to be read @ HSS, as one of the most respected Orthopedic Specialist Hospitals in the World, surely a capable enough set of eyes with the proper diagnostic resume could be located for an evaluation & recommended course of immediate action, after ’09 I’m suprised that they don’t have their own machine in-house & available as some other teams have this should NOT be treated as appointment medicine; but more like Emergency medicine if for no other reason than a proper dos & don’ts activities list for this most irreplacable asset even if it’s only a matter of changing the possible “oh, sh-t!” in Reyes’ mind to a “thank, God” Not that he’d be cleared to play any easrlier; but to remove the clouded emotions from the entire dugout. I fuully anticipate a surplus of SRO tickets were printed for today’s game & I pray the Wilpons take notice of what I believe will be a perscipitous dropoff in demand along with it’s accompanying loss in concessions/souveniers.

I agree that when it comes to Reyes, the health of those legs should always be in any conversation. He had hamstring problems in his minor league career and that first year up, to the extent that they attempted to change his style of running to compensate. I can only assume once his body matured though heading towards 22, he filled out some and became stronger. Hence, the 4 years injury free.

I still contend though that if they treated that initially injured correct in 2009, he probably wouldn’t have been lost for the season. Here’s hoping they’re a bit smarter this year.

OK, first off, you never hope or root for an injury. Ever.

Second, your point relies on at least 2 unconfirmed assumptions.

1 That Reyes wants “Carl Crawford money” He’s said no such thing. Its just guesses taken by the media saying that. Reyes has done nothing to let us know what his priorities are outside of playing his heart out

2 That the injury is serious. They are being careful with him as of now. Could it be a big deal? Yes, but we don’t know that as of now.

Two years in a row with a major injury?

I think your memory is faulty. Reyes didn’t have a major injury last year and played 133 games.
You must be thinking of 2009 where he only played in 36 games.

2010 133 games
2009 36 games
2008 159 games
2007 160 games
2006 153 games
2005 161 games

2004 was Reyes’ first full years in the majors. He was asked a young ball player to switch from SS to second to accommodate Matsui. That year he had a hamstring injury and back problems and only played in 53 games.

Met fans who constantly throw out there ‘injury prone’, ’4 or 5 major injuries’ and the like should do their homework.

While most of the injury stuff is true….this is a stupid blog!

Jose Reyes has carried this team on his back for over two months now and is a legitimate candidate for an MVP award. If the voting was done now..he’d practically be a shoe-in!

None of us want to see Jose get traded but if the team can’t come up with the money that he will be offered elsewhere would we want to lose him to free agency? All too often a player in his position that goes into a season in the position that Reyes is in will have to explore what the market will bear and if so money will talk in most instances.

This is the price that a team pays for not having signed him during the past off season but under the circumstance did anyone know that Jose would have been this healthy up to now or was to be having his best season yet!

To think that him being injured now is a good thing is foolish!

Did you stop to think that, perhaps, this injury is the straw that breaks the camel’s back! Which camel am I referring to? The Fred Wilpon camel of course. If this hamstring injury results in a prolonged stay on the DL, miser Fred may just forbid his GM lackey to even think about resigning Jose’. So this might just not be all the ‘good news’ you think it is. I viewed this injury as another ‘oh sh-t!’, which is where I think Mets fans should be with this.

It does not sound like he pulled it, but if he did, that is a 4 to 6 week injury. And if he did pull it, I doubt the mets throw big money at him if he misses that kind of time. Two years in a row with a major injury. 4 or 5 major injuries in his career? Plus, they do not have the money to sign him AND fill out the rest of the team. we are not winning a WS with Jose Reyes doing all the lifting. In case anyone noticed, we are below .500 with him having a true superstar year. This team needs a lot. They will have to spend their money judiciously. And trade wisely. It looks like it is draft picks for Jose.
