so, pelfrey pitch well, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings is not a game well pitch, more like, he was saved due to the anemic Giants offense, if this was another team his line would've been different than 6 innings 2 runs, trust me, i was watching and i kept thinking when the giants were gonna break out with an 5 run inning off of this bum, you seem to like pelfrey to make a statement like that, that's why sabermetrics is crap, if you watch the game you SAW with your own eyes how the game was going to unfold, also, you wanna talk about defense?? really?? make that 10+ hits he would've allowed had no been for the defense. this man keeps allowing baserunners in all his game pitch at an alarming rate!!!
d.j carrasco f*ing sucks!!!!! great job sandy signing this POS for 2 YEARS!!!!!!!
we had our chances against cain, specially in the 4th when he was all over the place, but of course, murphy couldn't come trough, hopefully ike and reyes and wright be back to make a 2nd half push to be where we wanna be..

I think we are playing great for a 500 team. This is our fate and I have nothing but praise for the Met owners, GM, manager and staff for getting the full potential out of this team. When the final pitch is thrown in the '11 season the standings in the NL East will be exactly as they are now. Their best is not good enough for the teams ahead of them in the standings. It is what it is.

I think Hersh is a smart guy. Big guys like Pelf always break down mechanically. However, if I were Hersh I would have focused on the fact that Pelf is a mental case. That is his major problem. Did you love the way Bobby criticized Jeter, then realized he had, and wound up calling him the best player in baseball? Talk about overcompensating. I hear Bobby is a great ballroom dancer. He ain't a bad tap dance either.

I still maintain that Pagan is a fourth or fifth OF, and a likeable dumbass when it comes to baseball. He is a rotten outfielder who makes some plays because he is so damned fast. He takes bad angles to baseballs, misses cutoff men, throws to the wrong base, and on the basepaths he steals a lot of bases, but gets picked off and cut down trying to take extra bases. And batting leadoff he swings at the first pitch too often. The longer he plays the more it shows. Still, I would not mind having him on the bench, filling in some for injuries and such. He has some talent.

I thought of that too. Of course, if the ball DID get away from Cain, it would have been logical to come back low and away. But I did think exactly the same thing and I was surprised no one in the booth mentioned it.

When Santana was blowing away the 3-4-5 hitters in his prime for the mets, I don't recall anyone breathing sighs of relief that they did not paste our ace. Bay is what he is. The Lincecums and Cains of the league are going to take his measure more than most of the time. Face it--Omar overpaid for Bay. We are getting less than we expected, true. But he still overpaid. I am not going to ride him on a daily basis because he does not own Lincecum or Cain.

And another thing, what's this Orel Herchiser, "..Pelfrey doesn't consistently bend his back knee during his delivery casuing his timing to be off..ball elevated blah blah blah.." nonsense? Perhaps Hershiser just wanted to keep up with Valentine's insightful comments(you have to admit BobbyV knows baseball) and threw out his Pefrey delivery critique to keep up. Earth to Orel.. !Earth to Orel..! Pelfrey is 6'8.
Any 6'8 pitcher is going to have difficulty maintaining a consistent delivery. A 6'8 pitcher's delivery from the windup can be likened to a slinky cascading down a staircase.. loosey-goosey is going to be an issue for any pitcher. I'd be curious what "advice" Hershisher would have given Randy Johnson.
Herishiser: ".. you see there Johnson's back knee is not repeating the same 34.5 degree angle with every pitch.."
Valentine: "He struck out 300 batters last year Orel"
Hershiser: "Bobby there's a difference between a pitcher and a thrower."
Valentine: "I'd choose a thrower who can strike out 300 in a season every time.
Hershiser: "Bobby pitchers win pennants.
Valentine: "I was all-state in football, a manager in Japan and the major leagues and on my way to becoming one of the best center-fielders of all time before tearing up my ankle and knee on the outfield wall in California So shut the F! up already with the idiotic over analysis will you please!
Hershiser: .....[dead air}......
ESPN Play-By-Play Guy: "Ball 4.and Pelfrey walks another batter after going ahead 0-2"
Valentine: "Pelfrey is having difficulty recreating a technically sound delivery."
Hershier: ....(dead air)..

You GOTTA LOVE Bobby V! What a pisser that guy is!

Also did anyone other than myself think that Cain mean to threw that 0-2 pitch in the vicinity of Reuben Tejda's head/shoulders? Total BS! What was the next pitch? breaking ball down and away. next pitch.. inside fastball... Tejda WOW! GREat at bat!
Have we ever seen Cain hit another Met player in the head on an 0-2 pitch before?
Why didn't the ESPN announcers bring this up? Even more importantly where was the Met response?

It's hard to win when you don't score runs. To win we need to play perfect defense and capitalize on almost every offensive opportunity given.
Defensively we didn't turn double plays in this series and continue to be challenged at 1st and 3rd base. Daniel Murphy is giving us everything. I can't criticize his play. Murphy is a utility player thrust into the role of an everyday player. Shrugs.. It's a given that over time weaknesses will be exposed.
Tejeda and Pagen did not play well defensively this series. That cost us. Tejda's poor defensive play surprised me and quite frankly is a concern. He HAS to provide consistent excellent defense to justify a spot on the roster. Offensively Tejda continues to improve but so what.. He will NEver be a Jose Reyes and the Mets are not expecting him too. Angel Pagen is lapsing defensively. Pagen will not be a Met very long if his "lapsy-hohum" defensive effort continues. In my opinion after Reyes returns Pagen is best in hitting in the #6 slot instead of #@.
Disappointing weekend. we should have taken 2 out of 3 and picked up a full game on the Braves.

That title has to be the best title i've seen in a while. Rock you like a Hurri-Cain was pretty classic.

As for the Mets, i have to agree with Bayonne Mets Fan on the fact that they had their chances. During the series, they really didn't execute with RISP. I am glad that its the All-Star break. They are now starting to fade. Although when the Mets come back from the All-Star break, they better start off better unlike last year. God i hope so....

Bay is who he was before the 2 HR game in LA, a tease.

I can understand that we "faced" all these AS pitchers before the break but Kuroda had a better ERA and had pitched better against us and we beat him and then their is Swansong, I mean Vogelsong;
He has a real good 1st half and because he is going to AS game cause Bochy took him does not make him a threat that Cain, Lincecum and Kershaw were so please stop making it seem as though we are facing these awesome pitchers plus we have had Hamels number in past so if he does pitch we have at least some history.

Running up the count, as stated, is a good approach but those infield plays are just so depressing, can't catch a ground ball, taking your time on a DP grounder, at least getting one out if you tag the runner?
Fundamentals but I guess Mets got exposed in this SF series cause it was an adventure with Duda, not a regular 1b, and Murphy and Turner forget to field their position.

Please return Ike, Jose and David cause this is demoralizing to staff and team.

Also we had our chances against Lincecum and Cain too but what cost us was lack of timely hitting which is something this team has been doing lately. So if you want to blame anything it lack of big hits in important spots...not walks.... because we DID get runners on base

Even with tonight's loss it was a 4-3 west coast trip and the Mets are losing close games. They still are not playing bad despite playing with kids so Alderson STILL better not wave the white flag.

Mets lost lots of games recently they were in so they STILL have the makings of a good team able to make a run when the healthy guys get back soon so BACK OFF Sandy.

Oh and Sean, i know you LOVE walks and can't think of baseball past offensive statistics but sometimes good pitching makes your batters swing at bad pitches. I know it's easy for ANYBODY to say they have to be patient and wait for a good pitch..heck ANYBODY with a passing interest in the sport can say that. It would be nice to say all we have to do to beat Lincecum and Cain is wait for good pitches.

That was EXTREMELY easy for me to say. One problem, it's Lincecum and Cain.

The Mets faced 3 All Star pitchers and good pitchers make batters do things they don't want to do. I'm not making excuses but these kids who are playing in place of 3 major veterans have held the fort quite nicely and we still lost some games that with a full squad we could have won.
