- David Wright, 3b
- Daniel Murphy, 1b

The Mets and Marlins play game two tonight. Last night’s game featured the return of David Wright as he knocked in two doubles and helped us all remember fast what he means to this lineup. Reyes also had two knocks on the night, going 2-6, lowering his BA (seriously). Anyway tonight the Mets look to get behind another trade candidate in Chris Capuano as he goes against Clay Hensley.
Capuano is 8-9 on the season with a 4.16 ERA. In his first start back from the All-Star Break, he allowed 4 ER in 7.2 innings of work. This season, he has faced the Marlins twice, allowing 5 ER in 8.1 innings of work. The Marlins have the following numbers against him:
Ramirez 3-16
Cameron 4-10, 2 HR
Helms 1-7. 2B
Infante 2-7
Sanchez 3-6, 2B
Hensley will be making his second start on the year today. So far this year he has pitched in 21 games, with a 2.70 ERA in 20.0 innings of work. His first start of the season was against the Mets as he held the Amazins scoreless for 5 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers on Clay:
Wright 3-14, 2B
Reyes 2-10, 2B
Bay 3-9, 2B, HR
Harris 3-5, 2B
Let’s Go Mets!

Hooray! Lucas Duda FINALLY hits his 1st HR of the season! Unfortunately, it comes too little too late in a game thrown away by that greatest of F/A signings, DJ Carrasco. He is given a one run deficit to protect then, wham-bam, the Mets are down 4 runs. Oh, maybe it’s Terry Collins’ fault since he pitched 2 innings in the last game against the Cardinals. Maybe DJ was “fatigued”. Aside from being signed through 2012, why is this moron still on the team? Okay, so maybe there’s no one at AAA pitching well enough to replace him at this point, I don’t know, haven’t checked their stats lately.
But clearly, Carrasco was a bad pickup even if he signed on the cheap. But then again, in an offseason that saw numerous middle relievers and set up guys getting huge deals (think Grant Balfour, Dan Wheeler, Matt Guerrier, and Joaquin Benoit) how and why did Carrasco come so cheaply? His ’10 stats weren’t so much different from some guys who got huge money. Just saying something doesn’t add up when comparable relievers get 3 years and 2-3 million a year and Carrasco signs for 2 years at about 1 million per.
Obviously he isn’t that good, so what exactly did the Mets think they were getting? Not a 7th inning reliever let alone a set up guy or spot starter. Not even a stint in AAA helped him. But I assume the Mets are stuck with him since guys with ERA pushing 5.50, WHIP close to 1.50, and allowing a HR every 6 IP don’t have much trade value. Sandy was willing to eat two bad contracts already (Perez/Castillo), will he add a 3rd?
I think it’s time to pull the plug on J. Bay. Not productive at all, I think he needs to take a back seat for a while.
