finding a position for Murph will be the issue.
Right now Turner is doing a great job at #2 so do you move him to put Murphy here?
That is the dilema with Daniel cause he does not play good defense to be everyday 2b but SA did say he wanted 2b to be an offensive position so does that mean Turner offense or Murphy type defense?

Important to sort this out cause turning DP and other important duties of 2b can’t be ignored just to put an offensive player there cause the cost in un-earned runs might not be acceptable, just saying.

I’m glad that we have a player like Daniel to play 1b til Ike gets back but the adventures in fielding are heart stopping along with David’s apparent oops.

Also, it has been said, that when Citifield was completed and Shea had to be demolished, they called on Murphy, and with one swing of the bat, good ole Shea came crumbling down, to which Murphy just turned around and said, “If you need anything else,…I’ll be in the cage.” And like that, he was gone…

Danny “SWEET JACKS” Murphy is a professional hitter, schooling himself in the art of hard knocking baseballs like Todd Helton, Dante Bichette, and Ted Williams. Though not yet the thumper that these other mentioned ballplayers were, Ole Danny Boy sure seems to liken hitting to a sweet, sweet science like the others did. I’d look for “Roundin First Murph” to be jacking frozen ropes, bag piping and swiping, and putting Uncle Charlie beddy bye for years to come, all while turning sweet, sweet double plays at second in Citi for the Meties until they have to rip the boom stick from his ninja gripping claws.

Murph reminds me of a poor man’s Bill Buckner (minus the error). A proto-type line drive hitter and RBI machine. If they ever find him a position he will be a very productive player/hitter for years. Google Buckner and check out his stats. NICE ARTICLE!!!

We all know that Daniel Murphy is a good player. And his accomplishments have happened on the field despite the mismanagement of Willie, Jerry, Omar. Daniel just wants to play ball, and he has done so at many positions. I wonder how much better he would be if the Mets sacrificed Murphy’s versatility and just played him at 2B.

We’ve gone through a cast of characters but it will be interesting when Ike returns next year and Daniel and Justin square off for the job. The pretenders are either traded or in the minor leagues.

I’d give Murphy a full crack at 2B next year and see if he can finally find a home that will allow us to have those 50 doubles a year in our lineup.

We sure can use them with Thole, Bay, Whoever we get in RF, Tejada if he’s the SS and possibly for CF if Pagan doesn’t hit the way he’s capable of.

hmmm.. good article, he’s got a compact swing to make contact and line drive the ball, he had POS written all over, but i was wrong, i actually like murphy, as long as he’s our #6th hitter i am content..

Ed – Talk about hitting the nail on the head…great job!

If you extrapolate DM’s 2009 second half numbers, he would’ve hit @ 63 doubles!

Your best point was your final one – if you’re on base and DM is at bat, you’re in scoring position already!

So what the heck is he doing bunting in Marlins series?!!!

I hope DM remains a Met always.
